I have a sunburst 62 Jazz AVRI but that looks awesome!
What strings are you using?
Take care,

Assembled. StewMac ash body blowout $99. Allparts neck from Stratosphere is nearly grainless, not painted, just luck of the draw, $130. The rest are ebay parts shipped from China. Thank you for the compliment.Nice - you bought it for $475 or you assembled it for $475? And is the neck painted white too?

They're hand painted? I could be wrong but I don't think that's true.Spitfire tort pg's are actually nicer than most original 60's Fender tort as each one is unique/hand painted in which you have a choice of individual styles. Mark's pg's also have authentic thin-black-center-layer stock which no other aftermarket tort pg producers offer. And in case you haven't checked current prices on original vintage 60's tort pg's (over $600!) his offerings are well worth the price for what you are getting.
ftr - mine is vintage bright red/speckled 60's/relic-extra light

Flat Out Flat. Not only does the flatness opaque the grain, but it has a very slight white wash, so it makes woods look a shade or two lighter. It's wipe on and water based, so it's a good alternative to wipe on poly.On the neck I used General Finishes' View attachment 981424 Flat Out Flat. The Flat Out Flat is called a Topcoat, not a stain. I've used it on two necks and an unstained ash body. Steel wool it after and it looks and feels very nice. I started adding coats, thinking, as you did, it could get to looking Mary Kaye, but it just started looking a little goopy without getting much lighter. However, General does have a white tint water based stain on their website that looks like it might be good, but I haven't tried it. Which means now I have to. Invalid Link RemovedInteresting - so being wiped on it penetrates/stains the raw wood? Then did you use a scrub-pad to smooth out the water-raised grain? I could see that as being pretty nice, like Fenders Mary Kaye trans white finish.
