Shroeder Cabs ?

If you just need a lightweight cab, great! But, too much mids going on for me. THe BMF series sounded better to my ears, but was never satisfied with sound. I went back to a heavy cab.

Don't expect it to sound like any other 412. Expect a midrange bazooka that, compared to most 412s, will be shy in the lows under 300Hz. It'll be insanely loud, easy to hear in a mix, but not very pillowy or foundational.

Well the light weight is definitely a strong selling point, but I also want a thick, punchy, articulate sound that is not harsh on top. Anyone else have experience with Schroeder cabs and more specifically...the new Schroeder 412L? What are are the inherent sound characteristics? How is the cab voiced? Thanks everyone.

Well that is not what I am looking for. I expected better for that price! Anyone with a different opinion?

I had a 1212BMF for a short time. Loved the light and loud aspects but it was way too midrangey and bassless for me. Sold it and went back to my Acme B2 which was polar opposite (HUGE bass and no mids by comparison).

My 2 cents are probably only borderline relevant, having not tried the Schroe 412, but here goes anyway: I've owned the 1212BMF, and didn't find it too "midrangy", at least not with the amp (Epi UL502) and bass (w. Bart soapbars and pre) I used it with. It was a pretty even, punchy little rig, with a tight bass and a slight midrange bump. But the geeral tone was not "thick" as you describe you are looking for. ANYWAYS, I also had the Aggie GS412, and THAT fits the description "thick, punchy, articulate sound that is not harsh on top" perfectly, IMO. Yes, it's around 120 pounds, but surprisingly easy to haul around.

I've only heard a couple Schroeder cabs....both were 4x12 BMF I think. Loud and rich in the mid-range is consistent with what I recall. Unfortunately, there is no padding on the inside of these cabs for proper damping, which is why they sound so boxy. The tone should improve if one adds foam padding to the cab interior. For the price, you'd think Schroeder would do this already, but they're not the only guilty cab builder in this regard.

I'd say it puts out (or at least you can EQ in) a significant amount of lows to put it on par with most 12s. Plus it is very light and super low. Won't do the pillows lows though...

Box volumes also tend to be small WRT to drivers-a big part of the weight reduction.

In short, I've got a love/hate relationship with my Schroeders. Size/weight & punch/volume vs. tone (not that I hate the tone, I just don't love it). However, I don't have the 412, just the 1212L and the 21012R.

My biggest piece of advice would be to try it in a band mix before deciding if you like it. I HATE mine at home but in the mix the tone works and maybe even excels. Of course IMO.
