Shutting Down GAS

Last night, I was having a GAS attack just as I was getting ready to practice. Once I opened my book, the thought occurred to me, “how would this new bass help me read this line better?”

At that moment, the GAS disappeared.
How many minutes later did it come back? :D

I already know that equipment will not make me a better musician, and that experiences produce more happiness than material objects. None of that serves to thwart my desires.

I know I can’t kill my GAS. I simply like putting in perspective. Thinking about desires logically keeps them in perspective and under control.

New gear probably won't help the technical side of my playing but it almost always helps the inspired part of my playing. Sometimes inspiration is far more important to me than my technical abilities. IMHO
My new to me '73 P will definitely help my performances this weekend be more inspired (playing the same songs for the 10,000 time). Better a bass than booze.

i am on a quest to end my GAS.

i made a list of everything i'd need for any gig situation i'd be in in the next few years. now that i've got everything i need, the desire to get new stuff has gone.

the desire to look at gear is far from gone...and that's where i am nervous about my plan. the more i look at gear i don't need, the closer i get to convincing myself i need something new.

My dear Good Doctor...it is only temporary, the GAS may go, 'tis but for a short time... check back with us next week.
In the span of 2 months, I bought 3 Spectors (a Bolan, a Sarzo and a Legend) a Warwick Masterbuilt $$ Corvette, sold a USA Geddy Lee, sold a USA Deluxe Dimension...and felt fully satisfied...for a month, until 2 days a go I grabbed another T'bird....true story ;-)

I just add whatever it is to the list and then scramble the list. Uncertainty about what to prioritize buying first, keeps me from buying anything. When I figure it out, I succumb.
I've been scrambling between a MiniMega and a TC800 amps. Squeeked my cab GAS out the other day on some K212s. Smells sweet ;)
