Shutting off emails for watched threads?

Tried the search engine but mostly came up with bug reports about people not getting emails for keyword alerts...

At some point within the last 6 months I decided to turn on email alerts for watched threads. It was fun for a bit, but I'd like to turn them off. I'd like to still get alerts for posts on watched threads and still get emails for PMs (though I am willing to let go of that to stop the emails about watched threads).

I've gone through every option and preference page several times and cannot seem to find where I shut off getting an email from a watched thread. PLEASE ANYONE...help! Where is this preference controlled?

Go to your watched threads page.
Open each one and “unwatch them”
Re watch if you choose, but select “without email notification”

Did not work, but I noticed a link at the bottom of the emails that I receive that says disable email alerts. Fingers crossed.

I’ve had to unsubscribe to a thread give it a few seconds and re-subscribe to stop some email notifications. Not on all threads but a few I just couldn’t get to stop any other way after trying different things.
