So I have been thinking of getting a Shuttle 6.0 to go with my Mesa 4x10 anyone have any thoughts on this? I guess I am not really sure if that combo is what I am looking for?
I've never gigged that combination, but I have used it in a music store. They have a shuttle 6.0 on top of a mesa 410 at Norman Music center here in central OK. Had a bit of grit/growl from what I recall. Never used the mesa 410 with anything other than a mesa head before that. Mesa on mesa is always extremely growly. More so than the shuttle/mesa combo. From my experience with mesa heads I know a good bit of the growl was coming from the head, but I fully acknowledge that the extent that the 410 was contributing to that tone is an unknown for me. I will say that I liked what I heard of the shuttle/mesa 410 combo better (from what little I heard) than using a straight mesa set-up. Seemed a little cleaner and transparent. All mesa rigs have always seemed too tubey/growly for my tastes when I've used them. The shuttle was an interesting little head. If I wasn't fixed on heads with my t-funk, it would be in the running. As it is, I am pleased with the cleaner/punchier 'funk from what I've seen thus far. The mesa 410 has always sounded pretty good. I've always felt that I had a little too much grit when I've used one with a mesa head in the past. Plus that 410 is really farking heavy.
Problem solved! Thanks for the help. The tubey/growly sound is just what I am looking for. So I went ahead a got a Mesa Big Block 750 to match up with the cab.
You'll want more, or different cabs with that head. It's a great one, but puts out full juice at 2 ohms. Even 4 ohms would be better than your 8 though.
I actually ordered my 4x10 in 4 ohm when I got it knowing that it was gonna be a stand alone (Its for my house). So I should be getting decent power from the head.
If growly tone is your bag, then that set up will probably make you happy. Mesa makes good, solid gear.
