Shuttle Max 12 users - what cab(s) are you using?

Also debating something like an AccuGroove as I love the sound of my bass in a PA. Maybe a "flat, full range" cab is another way to go.

Careful... just because a cab is marketed as 'flat and full range' does not mean it is so. Some of the Accugroove cabs sound great, others not so much. One thing for sure, they all sound different, which makes the 'flat' claim ridiculous. Don't dig that company at all, and the prices are just plain stupid versus what they are. The Whappo Jr. is pretty cool though, but way overpriced IMO.

I think ANYTHING will sound better to you than that little Shuttle 112 cab, which is nice for a little tiny cab, but still more of a practice amp thing.

The bad news is, you will KILL yourself for selling all those wonderful basses, assuming that was the issue and not your rig:hmm:

If you can't get a decent tone out of the Shuttle Max (very impressive amp) and a cab that is large enough to actually replicate the tone of the instrument, you should stop playing IMO and sell shoes.

The Max 12 and two NeoX112's will make you giddy IMO (as long as you like it 'bright and tight').

Yeah, I think it is the cab. It's nice, but just not enough for more than a small jazz gig at best.

I don't know if I will kill myself on the bass end. I did play them all at venues and through other systems so I think I knew how they sounded and I think I am just wanting something a little different than what the Sadowsky's gave me. No doubt they are GREAT basses and no slam on them at all. But there are many people who don't play them so I don't feel too bad.

I have been doing a lot of EQ'ing and learning with the Max head and even with the limitations of the Shuttle 12 cab it does sound better. I have come to the conclusion that I need a different cab(s). I need to have something bigger. I just have to get over my ultra-light, ultra-small thing and be happy I have that with my Max 12 head and don't need to haul around an 80 pound rack case full of suff.

After hearing fellow TB'er Ryan play through the Uber 410 (4 ohm so it would take more advantage of the Max 12) a couple weeks ago, and remembering how GREAT that cab sounds, I have even thought of going that route. If I were to take two Neox 112's to gigs, it isn't that much more (about the same total weight wise) to take the 410. Of course the 410 is a bit much for a couple venues around here, but it's no more overkill than the Max 12 head int a single 112 cab. Two 112 cabs are easier to move than a single 410 regardless of weight.

I do like bright and tight - especially tight. :D

Either way, I want to stick with GB as I have been VERY happy with them in the past and present, and if I can't get a good sound with their gear, I should sell shoes. :help:

I was just kind of kidding you on the bass thing:). But man, you have an amazing amp there, and a very, very mediocre cab (actualy a very nice but way too small cab for most gigging situations). I'd take the plunge on the NeoX112 and be happy. You can add a second for the big wump if you ever need it.

Going from that tiny little Shuttle 112 all the way to a huge 410 and full size 212 seems a bit silly, since the Shuttle 112 was 'almost enough'. You just need a full size 112 (with the option for a second) to be able to reproduce reall bass and a full even sound IMO!

I can take some kidding. Some of my past basses (Sadowsky, Modulus, etc.) have been very nice, but I have a hard time justifying that much money in a bass when no one complained about my paid for many times over Yamaha BB605. It still has the best neck I have played. I am still tempted by a Lakland 55-02, and I'll have to try the Sterling when they get them in at the store next week. As of now though, I am doing my best to fend off bass GAS and take care of the cab situation which is hindering my tone right now more than my bass.

I had pretty much decided I was going to go the NeoX 112 route and then had time to look and think this weekend and got side tracked. I'll try to stay on track this time and just get one of those ordered. You aren't the first or only person who has suggested that cab.

Another suggestion... how about a second Shuttle 112 cabinet. That would give you the scalability of 2 compact cabinets with significant LF extension due to coupling and more power. You would be able to play small gigs and practice with 1 cabinet but have the second to do the bigger shows.

You could do the same with a NeoX 112 and a Shuttle 112 also.

This is true. Maybe I'll hold off trading the Shuttle 112 until I can do some experimenting with both...

Steve,

My problem (and maybe yours) is that we're lucky enough to have so many good choices! As I mentioned above, I normally use the SM 12.0 with two NeoX112s, and that rig is loud, clear, and punchy. I also have the Shuttle 6.0-12T, and you know the Shuttle combos are an easy haul and sound good. The Shuttle 6.0-12T also works very well with a NeoX112 as an extension speaker. I've debated getting a second 12T cabinet, but that's probably redundant with the NeoX112.

Anyway, stick with the GB stuff, try the NeoX112, and you'll sound great (IMO of course)!

Definitely want to stick with GB. I was going to trade my Shuttle 112 in for the NeoX 112 but maybe I'll hold off that trade and play with both and see what kind of sound combination's I get.

I did think about a 6.0/12 combo as I loved my 3.0/10 combo so much, but the Max 12 head was quite the temptress and it's so light it's almost like a combo.

Visiting with the guys about the gig last night and they all said I sounded great. I thought so, too. I hung on my B string for a while on a couple tunes and it really thumped. A coupe players in the crowd said the same thing. Maybe the Shuttle 112 isn't so bad.

I'm going to try and do just what I told myself I would do - sit on my gear for a while and see how I feel in a few months. My guys at the store said they won't order anything for me for a while so that should help!

That damn Uber 410 still has me wanting it, even after a few weeks have gone by, and I've played through my Aguilar rig at a few rehearsals since then.

I'm pretty well convinced that I'm probably going with a Genz setup now (which reminds me, I need to change my classifieds listing.....). That 9.0/Uber 410 rig kicked butt, IMO, but I still need to try out a Max 12 before making a decision. I'd also like to get a chance to try some of the NeoX cabs as well, too.

I still can't wrap my head around the concept of getting all that sound out of such a tiny package......

my rig with my old sadowsky!

Most of the time I run only one UL410, but I have used both for bigger gigs.

Love it. :bassist:

I'm thinking about an Uber 410 myself to mate with my 9.0. The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is not sure if an XB3 or Epifani PS would suit me better since I mostly play classic rock stuff these days.

If your not totally against 12's, check out the Uber 212. One of the bands I play in plays mostly classic rock and it sounds great with my ShuttleMax 12. I've never had to turn the volume up past 11:00 and I am plenty loud against mic'd drums and two guitarists.

I would still like to A/B the Uber 410 and 212 just for fun though.

The 410 sounds more modern to me. The 212 sounds more old school. I think if I went for a single cab it would be the 410, but I'd need to listen again. If I could/needed it, the 410/212 stack is killer.

I have the Shuttlemax 12.0 Uber 410 212 rig. It is a killer rig. I just bought the shuttle6.0 12t combo for smaller gigs. I actually like 12s better than 10s and If I had to choose between the 410 or 212 uber I would take the 212. One advantage is the 212 is lighter.

...
as for 'overpowering'... I guarantee the best sounding rig I've played in years is a GBE1200 through a 112 neox cab!!~! Just let your ears be your gauge.

Hah! that was my "church rig" for a while. In March of 2009 we did a whole worship service (small choir, 2 amplified electric guitars, acoustic drums, 2 keyboards with amps, piano, saxophone) and no PA support for the bass. I just turned up the mighty GBE1200 one additional click and it killed. The L.F. Boost through that combo was truly impressive for such a small rig.

There's something about the ability of a big ol' A/B high wattage / high current amp that just throttles a woofer and just takes command of the notes.
