Shuttle Max 12 users - what cab(s) are you using?

I have been using a Shuttle 112 cab. I like to have as small a rig as I can. I play in everything from a jazz trio to 9 piece horn band to church. Many of my gigs - all except the jazz stuff - have PA support.

I use a 5 string bass with Bartolini electronics. I don't need to be really loud, but like a full sound. I actually like how I sound through the PA at church the most. Of course, that system has 18" subs, 3-way tops, nice eq and effects, etc.

I love GB stuff, and the head is killer, but I think the cab may not be what I want/need. Not many options locally. There is an Uber 212 and Uber 410 locally, but I'd like to keep it smaller than that if I can.

Just wondering what others are using.

I'm wondering if I need to go to a 210 instead. Something less "honky" than what I have. Maybe AccuGroove? I don't know. The GB Uber 410 (4 ohm) would be great, but it's a little much for jazz trio gigs.

I use two GB410T-XB3 cabinets with my ShuttleMAX 12.0 Both cabinets are 4 ohms each so i'm getting 600 watts RMS out of each power amp for the full total of 1200 watts combined.

For small gigs I use one cabinet.

If you're looking for old school tone, go with a XB3 cab, if you're a slapper and want modern tone go with a Uber cab.

I'm confused. The Shuttle 112 cab is rated at 300w and you are using a 375w section of your head to power it? My logic feels assaulted, but there has to be some science here. The NeoX 112 is also rated at 300w.

I don't understand? There's no problem using an amp that is rated higher than your cab as long as you are careful.

Or are you wondering why I am using such a high powered amp with a single cab? I like the preamp.

It's OK to use an amp with more rated watts than the cab, it just gives you some good clean headroom. Just don't dime the volume and hammer the strings. You can tell by listening when the speaker starts to compress and reaches its limit, just don't push it harder. Use your ears and common sense and your rig should sound great.

... and the Neox 112 is much richer / deeper voiced than the combo cab.
I also use dual 112's, but I'll tell you the Uber 212 is sweet!!! Too bad I cant fit it in my car. I CAN fit dual 112's

as for 'overpowering'... I guarantee the best sounding rig I've played in years is a GBE1200 through a 112 neox cab!!~! Just let your ears be your gauge.

The more I investigate, the more I think the NeoX 112 (or maybe 2) is the way to go. I probably should have done this in the first place. The Shuttle cab sounded OK so I just got it as it was in stock, blah. blah.

Unless there's something unveiled at NAMM this week, when the guys get back to the store I'll have them order in at least 1 NeoX112 for me. and trade in the Shuttle 112. Or maybe I should do it right and just get 2 NeoX 112's right away. Use 1 for jazz and church, use 2 for rock and horn band.

LDS 212/6/1. 900w @ 4 ohms, sounds excellent. And LOUD! I auditioned with a new band yesterday, first time playing through that cab. To get to that level with my old stack (Dr. bass 1580 +115) I would've had to have had the master and input volumes cranked. Instead I had the tube gain at 3:00, input volume at noon, and the master at about 11. Loud enough to support two metal guitars and a heavy drummer. I can't wait to let it crank on stage.

I think you would really like the NeoX112s. They're easy to move, although a bit bigger than the Shuttle 12s, but as mentioned in other posts you get a big increase in volume and low end output.

I use mine with the 212T Neox and I have yet to feel like I needed more. It's light, slides right in the backseat of my Ford Taurus or the trunk, kicback wheels and garners rave reviews ;) I am actually looking to buy a 112T for smaller gigs, plus if I should ever feel the need it will stack right on top of the 212T. Genz Benz is hard to beat! :bassist:
