Not sure, but maybe part of the gank issue is having the gain all the way up. I'd back down on that and see how it affects the tone.
The way I've heard "gank" referenced is too much upper mid that gives the sound an unpleasant harsh nasal quality. For me, a cut around 900 Hz and slight bump at about 150 Hz seems to correct this.
Have'nt been able to try it yet. The LDS is in the van along with my Carvin BX1500. I was gonna use the 9.2 and Neox 212T in my semi-regular Blues band gigs.
Yup. Gank rhymes with " Clank " which is the sound you get, especially on the G string.
Yeah, it does seem counter-intuitive, but it gives me that musical, " Jazz " tone I love. I get frustrated fast when there is too many bells and whistles on an amp, although I kinda like blending the channels so far - it seem to really give it more thump.
A thread from the dead ! I no longer have the ShuttleMax. Over the last few years, I've finally come to the conclusion that, the more knobs on a head, the more I feel the need to use them, which turns into a frustrating experience, for me, anyways. Although my Carvin BX1500 has alot of this, it was a head that I seemed to be able to dial in right away and have'nt felt the need to change. I think alot of it has to do with the fine Graphic EQ on the Carvin, which I use for boost purposes. The ShuttleMax amps, and GB heads in general, I found to be a little confusing as far as EQ goes, or I just plain could not dial them in the way I wanted to. Plenty of thump when you combine the channels, though !
I'm still really digging my SM 9.2. I have a post-it note in the hard case for the amp with the EQ center values on it for on-the-gig fixing. Nice to be able to respond when a sound man asks to cut a certain frequency.
I just started using a max 9.2 and was curious about the frequency values on the knobs. A brief search and poof, the answer in pictures! Thanks, Holmes and agedhorse.
