ShuttleMax semi-parametric freqs, nominal

Thanks, but I was hoping for the specific info on the Shuttlemax, not the Shuttle, which was already printed elsewhere. I don't mean to be a pain, but that info doesn't help me any Agedhorse.

These numbers are takes at 50% boost. Resolution (number) is a judgement call of about 10% due to a fairly shallow Q.
 
And within the Shuttle family there are subtle differences.

The solid state preamps (3.0 and Shuttlemax) have a different feel from the tube preamps (6.0, 9.0 and ShuttleMax).

The 9.0 and 9.2 have more low end extension than the 3.0 and 6.0. I'm not sure if the 6.0 and 12.0 Maxes have the low end extension or not.

BTW the amp sounded stellar once again at my gig last night. If only my playing matched, LOL! But this is really a fantastic product. Also again I can't say enough about the DI on the Shuttlemax, just superb.

I will update the graphics tonight when I get home from work.
 
The DI design comes from my long pro audio background, it's a design that works well in almost all circumstances that you will encounter in the real gigging world. There are a lot of really neat but tweaky designs possible for DI's, but they all come with baggage and the "improvement" in audio is marginal at best. This design, IMO is about 99% of the performance with about 1% of the problems.

Since I've never had this option before: Mic or Line with a DI, what's the difference, or, why would I choose one over the other ?

I started fooling around with my Shuttlemax 9.2 in to a Neox 212T cab. So far, I like the FET channel over the Tube. The EQ is a little bewildering to me, I can't seem to get a nice, clear, but powerful tone without gank. One thing for sure, combining the channels really kicks it in the butt. I tried running the gain up full on the FET, with the volume on 9 and the master around 10, with my passive Jazz. Seems like an odd setting, but so far, most pleasing to me, and I'm not getting the O/l light to blink at all, even with the High button engaged. Anybody else using this set up with a passive Jazz ?

Re. the below, I have a Shuttlemax 12.0 and run through a different 2x12 cab that's pretty clear/hi-fi sounding. I have a passive, fretless P, and a fretted P/J with EMGs (active pups, but passive tone controls). Not the exact same setup as yours, but maybe close enough that my experience will have some application for you. I'm still learning about and exploring EQ, but here's what I've tried with my Max:

Start flat (or even with the bass cut). Dial in some low-mid boost. Sweep the frequency until you get a feel you like -- for me this happens about 3 or 4 clicks above the 120 K lowest frequency; this is where I feel the most "hit" with the least "mud". Tweak the amount of lo-mid boost and add bass frequencies back in per taste.

If you are getting a lot of "gank" in the sound, try boosting the hi-mids considerably, then sweeping the frequency until you find the point that sounds the "gankiest"/most offensive. Slowly dial that back until you get a feel/sound that you like. I find that even a little bit of cut here makes a huge difference, and that I can quickly go from "ganky" to "too smooth." Cutting hi-mids is new for me -- until now I've carefully dialed in a little bit of boost there too, sweeping the frequency until I liked it best.

Highs, HF attack, etc., can all be added to taste (I like to engage a little of both, then tweak with the passive tone on my bass), but I find the mids the most critical in shaping the sound. I've also tried just a little of the LF extend/boost. I'll just dial that in until the lowest notes on the bass feel consistent with the notes about an octave above (a little of this is nice, but too much makes the low end feel loose -- more useful with a low B, but a touch can be nice with four strings, too).

Two more things:

1) You can do a lot with mixing channels (having the lows/low mids in the FET and cutting the highs and high mids, then doing the opposite on the tube side).

2) The amount of gain dialed in on either the FET or tube side, IME, affects the quality of the tone. I used to go pretty low-gain on the FET side on the theory that it would ensure clean transients for slapping (and it does), but I can still get clean transients with pretty high gain and the tone is more lively.

Once you get the mid frequencies set where you like them, you can also play around with the ratio of bass to lo-mids, and hi-mids to highs and see how you like things. These amps have a certain character, but there are definitely a variety of (even surprisingly) smooth sounds available.

^ Thanks. It's definitely an amp you need to spend some time with. I'll try your suggestions. The Neox 212T has alot of bottom, and when I have everything flat on the 9.2 with Gain, Volume, and master at recommended levels, it sounds like there is a blanket over the cab.
