Since some of you guys seem to have missed it:

Well, my search is over. I tried out a Landmine pedal and it blew my mind. It's exactly what I was looking for.

I know you already found what you were looking for, but I just wanted to add something. The EHX Metal Muff would have also been a good choice, I think. I bought one a week ago, and have been messing around with it a lot. With the top boost feature on, the notes are all clear and defined, and with it off, its a very heavy, muddy kind of sounding distortion.
The 3 band EQ is also wonderful.

Well, my search is over. I tried out a Landmine pedal and it blew my mind. It's exactly what I was looking for. This thing is so versatile and I can blend in the EQ perfectly so I still have nice punch and my notes come out nice and clear. The distortion is so thick too! The tone is amazing! Even some 4-string chords in first position come out nice and clear almost like a 6-string guitar. I'm thoroughly impressed.

Any chance we could get some samples?????

i say to forget the pedals altogether. you need to get a tube guitar head and cab, and add that to your bass rig. then you just CRANK the guitar head. that'll give you all the grind you want, and you still have the clean punch and low end.
