I'm not joking. I am an old-school Ramones and Pistols fan. I don't think there's anything that Squier put out stating it. It's kinda like the jazz that many call the Jaco jazz. Who knows for sure?

yeah, squier doesn't have to say anything, they're iconic basses. it's good that don't say it to my mind, it adds to the mystique of it. i think it's a great idea and i hope they do a couple more... maybe watt's '56 precision with the old thunderbird pickups, but i 'spose that's a little too custom for squier.

My friend calls him one of the best bass players ever.

He says that being so bad you get turned off completely and get left with just spitting on the crowed in one of the best things you can do as a bass player. He always emphasises the spitting on the crowd bit. Bit of an odd-ball, that friend ^^;;

He was on junk then,if you catch pre-nancy he was trying to learn,he loved the band and there music,he was just young and impressionable,alot of young players would of started because of Sids image.

Also lets face it,the sex pistols basslines were a pice of piss anyhow and timing was such a factor,R.I.P Sid anyhow,too young to die.

Dee Dee is such a much cooler bassist than Sid. Despite the fact that he couldn't play I supposed he fulfilled his role well.

I'm with Oratorio. Dee Dee's the one to emulate (despite his early death from drug use). He was cooler anyway, plus he could actually play. And write.

some guy in Arkansas had a bass on ebay about 3-4 weeks ago that he claimed was rescued from the old Chelsea Hotel and had been syd's original bass. He had nothing to back it up and just sort of threw it in the auction as a conversation point.

Recalling the bloody nose made famous by that photo (Randy's Rodeo in Dallas?) made me wonder if CSI could prove it was his by dna under the pukeguard, I mean pickguard.

I must have walked past that hotel a hundred times when I lived in NYC. It always made me think of that story.

Fender Japan has a '70s model that looks just like it (I've seen it on Ishibashi). I've seen it come up once or twice on Ebay as the "Sid Vicious" bass. As mentioned above, though, Dee Dee and Simonon--as well as Pete Farndon on the early Pretenders stuff--played the same model.

Olympic white and Sunburst were THE classic finishes of Fender Basses and Guitars in the 60s and 70s. With Tortoise Pickguards in the 60s and Black in the 70s. Thousands of musicians played them. 90% had it either in Sunburst or olympic white.

Has NOTHING to do with Punkrock or even Sid. Playing a Precision in white those days just meant staying away from the conservative oldschool look of Sunburst. Black finish eg was a customcolor option for a long time and cost extra $$.

If Sid had played an orange precision with green pickguard and Squier would put on a bass like that. That would be an indication its a signature model of Sid. But an ordinary olympic???

Bringing Sid into the Pistols was just another insane McLaren action...
