Bringing in Sid was actually Johnny Rotten's idea. They were childhood friends. McLaren just approved the idea.

Glen Matlock is awesome and he plays on the most famous singles from the album.

I don't know why people like to rag so much on the Sex Pistols. I really like the songs and they just happen to be hilarious when put under deeper scrutiny. Authenticity is great and all, but I think people need to lighten up a bit when it comes to punk. They were fun and they didn't wash up or outlive their welcome. What's so wrong with that?

Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock are awesome songwriters and musicians. John had the charisma and the "f... you" Attitude that kids are howling for those days, now and forever. If they had stayed together - they could have made ANYTHING...

But its too late to whine around now. :p
The "comeback" without a bands evolution, just playing same style and songs as in 77 was a stillbirth.

Sid and Malcolm ruined it all.

1+ for DeeDee and Simmonon - they just ROCKED!

Agree^^^^ but! it was Malcolm that ruined it and essentially screwed Sid,sid didnt do anything wrong apart from meet nasty Nancy.

Fair enough he never wouldve been Jaco or wouldve wanted to be but he looked very cool and made the bass very popular even thou he hardly played it,hes cool 4 that,stupid hes dead.

Steve Jones doesnt have Sids bass,I do,email me with genuine offers! ;)

I read a article that stated that one of the Sex Pistols guitarist was at a party where Bob Marley was at and between a set he stole Marley's Les Paul. This was a "do something illegal party"

The Fender Japan 1970´s P Bass is a fantastic bass and does kinda recall the Punk era. just bought one on ebay this week!Delighted!
Dee Dee was a great player. being able to drive all those 8th´s while trashed nioght asfter night for 25 odd years-takes stamina.
Kinda like Gene Simmons from Kiss-not technically brilliant, but able to hold the rythm down while puking fake blood.
As for Paul S from the Clash, one of the greatest of all time IMO.
And the Sid vs Glen Matlock issue, come on: Matlock was a musician, Sid was a posterboy for punk, thats all-a way for McLaren to get mentioned in every tabloid every day-like Bono does in this day and age.
i loved the pistols though.
Just my two cents

There is a story about Sid seeking out Lemmy one day after a show. "Lemmy," he says, "I need you to give me lessons. I don't know how to play the bass!" Lemmy just responded, "I know."

The Clash > The Sex Pistols in every imaginable way that doesn't involve puking on old ladies in the Tube.

Yeah hate to say it but the clash have dirty little secrets too,when thay started the only one who could play was mick jones, Theres vids of him stopping clash practices so he could tune Strummer and Simonons guitars. Simonon was asked to join the band because of his art background,he was their stylist. "Joe Strummer" was actually a joke made by joe about how bad a guitarist he was.

They still learned eventually and made some amazing music and Simonon is responsible for possible the most iconic rock and roll image ever

The guy was a murderer, a junkie, couldn't play a note on bass, total poser... I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is cool about him.

I have watched the documentary about the Sex Pistols. I liked it a lot and I must admit they were marketing geniuses. It's very sad to see a good looking young kid turn into an absolute monster of his former self because of heroin.

I read Lemmy's book and Lemmy actually tried to give him some lessons then told him it was hopeless cause Sid couldnt play a damn thing.

He bumped into him a few weeks later and Sid told him he had joined the Sex Pistols. I think they both had a good laugh about it.

Really good book btw every rock fan should read it. Lemmy has a bunch of funny stories :)

You mean to tell me that NO ONE could teach this dude how to play bass.....even basic fingering and notes?

Oh, yeah, the heroin excuse! The Chilli Peppers spent much of their early years in smack-ed bliss, and still put out not only sensible, but iconic material! That's only one example!
