All I care about is how it sounds and how it feels to play.
I remember spending some serious time at a local store with a MIJ Noel Redding J back in the 90s and really, really liked it. It came very close to my AVRI 62 J at only half the price and smoked the MIM Js of the era in terms of capturing the pre-CBS sound and feel.
While it’s not a signature model, I own a P bass that was heavily modified by the original owner. Yes, it’s cool that it was played on a #1 record, but if I didn’t love playing it, I’d have flipped it a long time ago. Even if I had no idea who had owned it, I still would have bought it.
