STOP! The Jerry Ragavoy tune as played by Kooper/Bloomfield
with Harvey Brooks on bass and James Gang Yer Album with Tom Kriss on bass.
Woman from James Gang Rides Again, Dale Peters on bass (and one helluva bassist he is!).

I would say any bass line of "Nothing's Shocking" by Jane's Addiction, Eric Avery. In my opinion one of the greatest and most under rated bass player in rock and roll.
If you list this one, then you have to also include "Caribbean Queen" by Billy Ocean. Very similar (in fact, I used to switch them around for fun sometimes!)

Let's not forget that one of the criteria is that it's got to be SIMPLE. And simple by anyone's definition. (The Fish is a great song, but simple? Uhhhh....)
Looking for bass lines that are impressive not because they're difficult to play, but because they're so stinkin' cool that you just can't stand it.
And isn't Dragon Attack the epitome of "riff rock"?
Which reminds me... how about "Everybody Wants You" by Billy Squier (which sounds a fair amount like Dragon Attack!)?

Geddy Lee is the reason I became a bass player... but "simple" is not a word I'd use to describe his bass playing.... ya know?
