Singer with terrible B.O.

Begin of rant----

This may sound funny but trust me.. it's not... I recently joined a band and the singer has really horrible B.O. we practice in a small room and it has come to a point where it's unbearable...

To make things worse he's a close talker... I feel like I'm on some sort of Seinfeld's smelly car episode/Larry Davidesque situation...

Any suggestions?

End of rant----

I had the same problem with an old singer. Seriously, it became a pretty big issue. Try sitting in a van with someone day after day in the middle of summer when they don't wash themselves or their clothes. Not cool. You gotta tell the dude, no way around it.

There's a thread here about ligament strains and carpal tunnel etc. and some of the remedies. A side effect of a compound known as DMSO is a stench. Does your singer suffer from any illnesses you know of ? His feelings may get hurt but as an adult I would pull him to the side because as already noted, as your front man he'll represent your band. If the only reason is a bathing, lack of tooth brushing and laundering problem, get a new guy.

Nope... this is plain ol' B.O. ... not a result of any remedy whatsoever... worst thing is as summer kicks in the problem surely will go in crescendo.

talk to the other people in the band privately to get their take on the issue. if you can have someone who has a longer relationship with the singer talk to him, it may be easier than having the "new guy" bring it up to him. if the other people in the band don't know what you're talking about, unless the music is really just incredible and you have loads of paying gigs... get out.

+1

Just wait til your playin out..then he really starts sweatin...yummy.

Come on people, really? JUST TALK TO HIM. This is not a huge deal.

"Dude, you smell kinda bad. It's unpleasant, especially in close spaces. Can you make sure to shower and use deodorant before every practice and show? Cool."

Done.
I agree with you, but people are sensitive, and even adults don't act like adults all the time. probably best to have someone other than "the new guy" have this talk... unless you know the singer isn't a douchebag as well as being smelly.

Kill him. Problem solved. lol

The second one seems to be the best route.
But if all else fails, take out a CL ad after you dump the body.:hyper:

A bit OT, but being that I used to travel ALL the time, I'm the worst person for being NOT PC when it comes to things like this when on a plane/train etc....

If you sit down next to me and the first thing I do is smell you, I'm asking for a new seat for me or you.
Yes, I told flight attendents to find other people a new seat.
Or if you're too big to fit in one seat and pour over into mine.......bad bad day for someone, and it's not me.

Yes I'm that guy on the plane that pretty much everyone wants to be, but can't/won't.

You smell? "Excuse me flight attendent...I need a new seat"
"Why? Can I get up and talk to you privately?"
I do and tell them why- If I gotta be stuck in a tube for a few hours, I'm not gonna be suffering anymore than I have to by the smell OR their body parts flowing into my seat all over me.
If they can't get me a new seat, get me on the next flight now.
I've literally been sitting in my seat and have had a hulk of a woman who could barely make it down the isle, stop to check her ticket and make an attempt to sit down next to me.

The only time I had to actually leave the plane for another one, was when I looked at her and said "Oh you have GOT to be kidding?!?!???? Umm....NO"
This cow got ALL pissed off. Flight attendents, the Captain and gate attendents all come on the plane.
I had a field day with it.
(No kidding when I say this woman would not have been able to sit in one seat).
Another woman on the plane called me "rude and un-excuseable".
When I asked her to switch seats though, she wouldn't reply to me.
I actually got a few thumbs up from some other passengers as I was leaving.
My next flight (45 min later)...first class.

My point with all this is,say something.
For me, there is ZERO excuse or reason I/you/we should be subjected to someone else's lack of personal hygene.
Pull him aside and be honest and not mean.

If he gets pissy, then be like "dude, you may think I'm being a jerk, but I'm doing you a favor, you smell like hair covered dog crap burning on a pile of garbage".
The you and the rest of the band on the way to the gig, stop at the manual car wash place, get $2.00 in quarters, load up the sprayer, and let him have it........
