Singer with terrible B.O.

just politely tell him. i was in a hippie world music band and the percussion player had an odor issue. it would make you gag in small spaces. we were about to hit the road in a van so we sat down and told him we had an issue with his "natural" smell. he didn't use un-natural products so we guided him to the natural alternatives and it worked out fine.

If he's really smelly, get a sponsorship from Left Guard as well.

May as well cover both sides.

Hey this made me think. What does right guard have against us lefties? I smell lawsuit here. Why isnt it called left guard? Does right guard work on lefties? I dont like this at all! I cry foul and shame on right guard...I'm calling them today. Thanks Jive for opening up my eyes. BTW..sorry to hi-jack the BO thread.:D

My singer sweats like a pig onstage. He usually shows up to a gig smellin fresh, but he's pretty unpleasant to touch or be close to afterwards.

Yeah, but see...he shows up to the gig clean.

What happens onstage and throughout the evening is just that.
If you make no attempt to be clean then you are just an idiot.

Does this dude have some kind of 'beliefs' that cleaning himself isn't 'right'?

I say arrange to shoot a video and have a bunch of HOT, really good smelling girls in it and have that singer get near them. When they all run for the hills then you can ask the girls (in front of him) why they walked away from him, let them answer. He either gets the message or he's clueless and then out of a job.

Bad breath is just as bad.

I mean the kind where the second someone with it starts to talk, the whole room smells like it.

UGH!

Bottom line.
If you cant keep clean and dont want anyone telling you that because of it, you stink, you are lost and clueless.

When you loose the gig it is at that point where you understand it or never will.

My point with all this is,say something.
For me, there is ZERO excuse or reason I/you/we should be subjected to someone else's lack of personal hygene.
Pull him aside and be honest and not mean.

If he gets pissy, then be like "dude, you may think I'm being a jerk, but I'm doing you a favor, you smell like hair covered dog crap burning on a pile of garbage".
The you and the rest of the band on the way to the gig, stop at the manual car wash place, get $2.00 in quarters, load up the sprayer, and let him have it........

+1 Absolutely stellar plan. I love it

Nope, I've never wanted to be a dick that was needlessly rude to a fat lady. I have something called tact, and can deal with the same issue without drawing attention to myself in front of the entire plane.

Maybe you never WANTED to be one......

Next time read and quote without pulling out just a snip.......

In case you missed it:
my post said:
You smell? "Excuse me flight attendent...I need a new seat"
"Why? Can I get up and talk to you privately?"
I do and tell them why- If I gotta be stuck in a tube for a few hours, I'm not gonna be suffering anymore than I have to by the smell OR their body parts flowing into my seat all over me.
If they can't get me a new seat, get me on the next flight now.
I've literally been sitting in my seat and have had a hulk of a woman who could barely make it down the isle, stop to check her ticket and make an attempt to sit down next to me.

+1

You can have this discussion tactfully. There's no need to be rude about it.

my old singer would smell like death from time to time. lived in the studio & had a gym membership to shower ONCE A WEEK!!!!!! but we had NO PROBLEM telling him to shower up if he is getting anywhere near us.

The OP's location shows Madrid so I am assuming that's the Spain version... Is it not his custom to wear deodorant? I've worked with people from Europe who have had to be told to start using deodorant or face being sent home from work for smelling like complete dog ****. But do keep in mind, there are actual medical conditions that make peoples breath and body odor absolutely unbearable no matter what they do.

Not the kind of FUNK band I'd want to be in. :hiding:

I worked with a Hungarian - in a business environment - who made goats smell good in comparison. His attitude was, "I smell like a man. Get over it." And I've worked with countless women who seemed oblivious to the possibility that their choice in personal fragrance might not be everyone's cup of tea (why do they always have the seat assignment next to me on airplanes?). The worst have been folks who think cologne is a valid substitute for bathing.

If it's intolerable, SPEAK UP! One of you may have to go.
