Single Cutaways - love the look / hate the look?

I love the first, and don't like the second.

In fact, i bought the BTB 6 string.

Single cut instruments are the same as all others.
A small minority will claim to hate every single single cut bass and rule out that they will ever like one.
A small minority will claim to love every single single cut bass and rule out that they will ever buy something else.
A vast majority will claim that there are ugly ones and that there are beautiful ones and at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste whether one likes them or not.

Yes it comes down to personal taste. I love single cut basses, but still I wouldn't rule out the double cutaway basses.

Actually, although being an owner of one of those single cut Ibanez basses, I have to admit that, when I saw the Terra Firma for the first few times, it looked ugly. But... once I had the chance to try one out and saw how it looked hanging on one's shoulder, suddenly the perspective has changed. It's unique and awesome. I like it!!!

Then it becomes my current gigging bass.

Which BTB 6 string did you buy?

Put me in the category of "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I love the look." When I first started seeing them I thought they looked ridiculous and ugly. I've done a complete 180. I think it started with the Brubaker Brute, where I actually considered buying one ... never mind hating them.

I have 2 so I like them but tone is king in my world, so I don't hold any instruments looks against it.

One of the best sounding and looking basses I've ever owned was my Benavente single cut. It surprised me in how easy it was to access all the frets.

As has been said a Les Paul is technically a single cut and as long as it gets no more extreme than that I am ok with it. I like Les Pauls and Telecasters and Junior Jets, etc. But when most people talk about single cut they want something much more extreme and in that case, for me, hate is not too strong a word!

The first two are Brubakers, the third is an ACG and the last two are Stambaughs.

The ones that look like an acoustic guitar with a small cutaway of three or four frets look good to me, but the others mostly don't.

In general it's not body shape I prefer, but a few manufacturers make attractive single cuts. Sadowsky, the Fodera MG sig, ACG, and a few others. I detest when the neck hump is huge. Often times single cuts look like two completely different basses were cut in half and forced together by sheer unholy will.

I absolutely LOVE the look but they don't work from my playing style. I need that top cut away to wrap my thumb around the neck for tapping... I do a LOT of tapping. Yup, I'm one of those. My other instrument is Chapman Stick.
