Single Cutaways - love the look / hate the look?

I voted "hate" but don't feel all that stronglyrics about it.

As my 7 year old says when she's about to attempt to refuse to eat something "It's not my favorite."


(By the way, I'm old school. She'll sit there all night if it takes that long to finish her dinner. )

Ha! You are correct,.Sir, I guess any Les Paul style bass body is technically a single cut, but that Hofner looks "right" to my eyes.

And at least for me, my Hofner Club "feels" right as well. Not the right bass for all situations, but applicable to many. It's also sure to turn a few heads and be a conversation starter in my experience.

Single Cutaways - love the look / hate the look?
I think some look really good and some look really not so good.
The two I do like in this thread so far is the bass in post #1 and the Höfner in post #11

Oh my freaking GOD! I hate, HATE, H A T E the look of these things! >.<
The odd thing is I can't actually come up with a valid reason for my (over?) reaction, I just totally and utterly abhor the look of all single-cut basses!
(does that make me a bad person?)

That would make us both bad. To me it is a matter of symmetry. It just looks al unbalanced and wrong. I think, "where's the rest of it?"

my last bass purchase was going to be either the btb or sr single cut basses. The only reason why I didn't is because of the band I was joining.

I either "like" or "dislike very much " the look of single cut basses.

Top of my head I like the Benavente SCD5, Fodera Matt Garrison/Richard Bona/Janek Gwizdala, and the Adamovic Halo/The Dark models.

I really dislike the look of the Fodera Tom Kennedy, AJ Presentation (and I love their playing), Ken Smith single cut, Jerzy Drozd single cut, and most every other single cut out there.

I kind of hate, or at least severely dislike, most single cut solid & semi-hollows. This one, however, I love:

My instructor plays Fodera singlecuts - the bodies are HUGE. They have to cut a cavity in the back side of the top "hump" so that it doesn't weigh 20 lbs.
I'm a minimalist; I like small-bodied guitars that conform to my body. That's why Spectors are my primary basses. Even a J-bass body is way too big for me. Forget about a singlecut; you can hide behind one!

P.S. - I LOVE the word "hate", and use it as much as I can. I HATE it when I can't use the word "hate" in a sentence!

I like the look, but I have to imagine there'd be some extra weight involved. Those Ibbys are gorgeous.

The more extreme examples (the non-Les Paul/Hofner variety) just look unfinished to me. I wouldn't say I "hate" them, but I wouldn't buy one.

Some people dig those. I am not really the type to play a $3000 sculpture on stage. Although I love a good bass as much as anyone else (I use a Cirrus USA).
