Single Malt Scotch!

Roger that - I have tried a few of the other Lagavulins as well, with really only the 8 year catching my palette. I'll keep the Quarter cask on my radar.

And it's not that the 16 was too much, more like the opposite. A bit drab to me. But, the good news is that I'm just going to have to try another bottle. :D

ahhh, i did misread you. i then assume you're a fan of Laphroaig, as i've always considered it to be more aggressive on the palette.

The 16 is my go-to, but I really dig the Lagavulin 12 and the 8. For whatever reason, the Distiller's Edition is probably my least favorite, though with some other singles, I really love the DE's.

After having had the Distiller's Edition, 16 and 12 all at once to compare for a few months I decided I'd be happy to just focus on the 12 and 16, where they were both so good, but while linked in flavor profile, still distinctly different. The 8 that I bought after your recommendation was nice and I would have bought again but I've still got really too many bottles and am trying to get down to just a handful of favorites and two Lagavulins pretty well cover it for me. :)

Soooo, as I'm walking into the area's large family grocery for a couple of things, and I hear a muted announcement: a Scotch tasting in progress in the booze area!!! What? Cool!!! Fate?

Anyway, the distillery rep was offering 3 half shots of Glenmorangie for 50 cents!!! What a deal! I had the Original (I think), the Lasanta 12, and the Quinta Ruban 14. Not exactly my thing, but hey, for half a buck!!!

I gotta go shopping more often!

I can't find much info about it, but I see that a lot of blends use Cardhu (12?) as a base single malt; it looks like it might be interesting as a departure from my quest for smoke. It just seems like it would be a very well balanced dram, albeit perhaps a bit drab? For times when I just want to enjoy a shot of something decent without exploring extremes and analyzing everything. From what I understand it's used a lot in things, particularly JW Black Label, which has become my go-to blended whisky (and is readily available most places; I mean it beats the hell out of having to drink Dewar's.) The price seems reasonable. Has anybody had any experience with it?

And no, I don't have a clue as to what this Game of Thrones thing is about, just doing some research. Thanks!

I've tried some at least once and don't remember much about it, but now that you've brought it up I'm interested in keeping a lookout for a bottle when I get the chance to buy one.

Have to say this was a very nice malt. Quite smooth with rich flavours. Reminded me of my Duirachs Own Isle of Jura. Had a rather pleasant birthday evening sipping this one during UK lockdown.
