Single Malt Scotch!

I go for Islays first, but I like variety.
Highland Park, and Ardbeg, and Springbank, are my three faves...but I love Oban, Talisker, Laphroiag, Lagavulin....I usually steer away from the lighter Highland styles, though they're nice enough before dinner.
But the wifey bought me a HUGE (1.75 liter) bottle of Glenmorangie....and I have been enjoying it. Slowly.

Lagavulin for me, followed by Talisker. I do enjoy most Scotch anyway, Islay followed by Speyside followed by Highland.

Damn this thread. I was thinking about not opening the bottle of Mac 12 I got for Christmas until my birthday, but this thread has made me realize my failure of critical thinking.

My roommate, whose father is a bourbon guy through and through, got a bottle of Dalwhinnie Distiller's Edition for Christmas. I'm going to set my tasters to over the next month or so.

I got a bottle of Dewar's White in my stocking. The well-intentioned person who bought it is not a whisky drinker, but I appreciate the thought and tried it neat the other night. No go. Tried it half diluted with water. That was also a no go. So tonight I bought sweet vermouth and tomorrow after I get some maraschino cherries I'm making Rob Roys.

Yeah, after getting used to the good stuff, scotch like that is pretty much only good for mixers. I applaud you for even trying it neat.

I personally don't mind Rob Roys and Rusty Nails......and I'll drink Johnny Walker on the rocks, no prob! Blends can be good drinks...but they're not Single Malts, for sure.

Ginger Wine is probably more of a Brit thing, though not that common even there nowadays. It's fairly thick, warming, and - believe it or not - gingery

Whisky Mac is 50/50 Scotch and Ginger Wine - a great drink when you've just come in the front door and it's freezing outside. That and Irish Coffee are probably the only ways I'd drink Whisk(e)y heated up.

I am out of Talisker, out of Lagavulin, got a fifth of a bottle of Highland Park and about two drinks of Glenfiddich left. I feel your pain

I'm heading into the distillery store tomorrow for a Springbank 15 y.o., Longrow 14 y.o. and a Hazelburn triple (distilled) 8 y.o., Society bottling, bourbon finished.

Now only US customs stand in my way of a pleasant winter!

I went to a tasting recently where we tried the Glenfiddich 12, 15 and 18.

I have to recommend the 15 to lovers of sherry cask aged Scotch. It was pretty good. The 18 was also very good, but from a cost perspective I think the 15 is a better deal.
