single pickup, single knob

Okay guys and gals, anyone have any pics to post of single picup, single knob basses?
Preferrably fretless! my latest obsession. I'm thinking really hard about making my fretless J turn into something with 1 pickup and 1 know. I find that I only use the volume knob on my j, and the neck pickup is dialed completely off most of the time

the new pete wentz squire is pretty similar to the hoppus. But with a maple neck, Duncan designed 1/4lb and a normal p body. Nice but has a crappy graphic on the body. One pickup, one knob tho.

My friend had a Mark Hoppus way back when and liked it. I never noticed the one knob though...

So one knob = no tone selection? How does that work?

It's wired direct to volume pot to jack. I guess any tonal adjustments would be made on an amp or similar.

Not so keen on it myself. I like simplicity but not for simplicity's sake...

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the info. I'm not too sure I'd like that either...

It works pretty well. It's just like having the tone knob cranked all the way up permanently. It's an annoying sounding bass with round wound strings on it, but a set of flats make it sound pretty darn nice.

It just depends on what you like, on my old bass I left the tone knob in one position the whole time, so the single volume knob is great for me, as the tone just got in the way. As for adjusting the tone, you just do it all through your amp. It just depends what you're into though. But as far as a fretless, I would just buy a Hoppus, and either do some neck work yourself, or buy yourself a a fretless precision neck.

Sorry I don't have a picture, but my main fretless has one pickup and no knobs. Like the OP, I really enjoy controlling the tone with my hands, not knobs, especially on fretless. It makes it feel more like playing an upright bass somehow.

You didn't mention what kind of bass you have. If I had a bass like a Jazz and wanted to make the conversion, I would have a pickguard company make me a pickguard with no pickup route. Then, I would take out the neck pickup and put my custom new pickguard on to cover the pickup hole. Finally, I would get a control plate made with just 2 holes (one for the volume and one for the output jack). ps if you use your bridge pickup all the time, you are not going to be happy with the Hoppus! Yes, it only has one pickup, but it is closer to the neck position than I think you want.

Be neat if someone built a matched set of single pickup Jazz basses - one with bridge pickup only, one neck only. I'd favor the neck only since I like a lot of space between neck and bridge, where someone else might like a lot of space between neck and pickup.
