There was some real interest when they (GB5) were first announced, but it took so long for them to be available, many moved on to other things. I for one would love to try one to make sure I could get it adjusted to my liking.

Having a fixed acoustic style bridge is a little concerning though it can be worked around.

Piezo only (ie no magnetic pickup) also makes it a little more specialized.

I'd LOVE to see more reviews of the fretless gb5.

Hey Sire people!

I tried searching about this issue as I sort of remember seeing something about it but could not find it!!

I have a 2nd Gen V7 bought in 2023. It's a great bass (and I am more of a P-bass guy), other than the ridiculous high weight, I think it's 9.5 pounds.

I haven't had an issue with the short battery life that some people report. But.....

I am having an issue with the sound just cutting out and the bass going dead. It happened the first time after a gig when I went to show it to a fellow bassist and it was dead. I had just played a whole 3 hour gig with it and it was fine, Right after that show I picked it up off the stand and it was dead. I couldn't figure out what was wrong at the time and just took it home.

It has happened a number fo times since, at home. I traced the problem to the battery compartment. If it is dead and I tap on the battery compartment the sound comes back. It will play in passive mode when this happens. But it is too easy for it to cut out so no gigs for this one until resolved. It is in otherwise like new condition. I might sell it due to the weight (I'm getting old!!) but have to get the battery issue resolved first. It has Duracell 9volt batteries in it now.

Sounds like a loose connection at the battery. Is it a snap cap inside the box, connecting to the battery? If so the wires inside might be loose, or coming off the connection inside the cap.

A bit of foam or folded up cardboard under the lid/bottom of the battery. It sounds as if the battery is not sitting tight against the contacts. It was a common problem once before.

I never had any more problems, (I also noticed later that some 9V batteries were ever so slightly shorter than others

See, I remembered bringing this up in the thread a while ago but couldn't locate it in a search. That post was made before I discovered that tapping on the battery compartment brought back the sound. I wonder if it's the Duracells. I will try another brand and see what happens. It seems that they are a VERY tight fit in the battery compartment.

My repair guy is traveling so I have time before I can bring it to him. Thanks!!!

just stick a bit of card (try different thickens) on top of the bases of the batteries to hold them well down onto the contacts at the bottom of the compartment when you shut the door?

I use Varta Indusrtial Pro with no problems

Thank you for the great advice. I did what you said, and it worked very well.!!!😎😎

Now, if only you had advice for how to deal with the 9 1/2 pound weight of this beast! Now that's my major problem!🥸

Minimal difference in terms of overall weight, (percentage values in below are of the total weight of the original tuners, NOT the bass) but can change balance:

For a 4-string you will save about 5 Oz / 135 g - its a tiny amount compared to the weight of the bass, but because of the long lever arm of the neck it can affect balance
