Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was curious about the underpowered aspect, in the situation where two batteries are installed, but one not having nearly enough juice.

I should have also noted there was a loss in volume as well.

Seriously though, it must look very strange indeed from the outside looking in, but there has never been anything quite like this on the market before. If ever an instrument/deal has unequivocally earned the title of Game Changer - this is surely it. And then again, if they've never seen this kind of excitement & these kinds of reviews & comparisons over a $400-500 dollar instrument, maybe that ought to tell them that something quite out of the ordinary is happening here.

I sure hope Fender is paying attention - this is how you do it, guys!

Everything you said is true. The only way that other manufacturers could do what Sire has accomplished is by cutting out the retailers.
I think the Squier and chinese Fenders are good quality instruments for their price range. I think that there aren't too many Sire doubters left out there, and probably those guys would take the plunge if it weren't for the wait. Also it'll be really interesting once the M7's are available with the 35" 5 strings and dual humbuckers how the market is gonna shake out. Stay tuned.

I suspect that I will order one of these even though I don't need one. The only thing blocking me is that I would have to get rid of some Peaveys or I know Mrs. Cheese would hit the ceiling!

Okay now that I've had a little time with here's a review.

I'm very impressed with the craftsmanship on the bass. As many have stated it if you handed to someone and ask them how much it cost there is no way they would say it was a $500 bass. The fretwork is immaculate, the binding is clean, the inlays are flush and there's no flaws in the finish at all. There's a contoured heel for easier access to the upper frets. Everything is nice and neat there's no obvious signs of it being a "cheap" bass. The frets are smaller than I had figured as well. Mine has the made in Indonesia stamp on it too.

It is lighter than I had figured. Unfortunately I don't have a scale here but it is lighter then my 11 pound SBMM Ray35. It balances well and there's no headstock dive at all.

I'm also really impressed at the multitude of sounds that you can get out of this thing. Passive mode sound is great and active mode as you would expect out of a jazz. One great feature that it has that I've not seen on any other bass near this price point is the passive tone control. I did have to adjust the trim pot to get the active level the same as the passive but that was simple. Not to be cliche but it sounds like a good active jazz bass! I don't foresee having to do anything to the electronics they are certainly up to par!

I had to do a little tweaking on the neck and set the action and intonation as expected but that wasn't an issue it only took a few minutes. I've already put the chrome knobs and Dunlop strap lock pins on.

Another nice surprise was the case. Very high-quality for this price point and certainly no problems as far as protection goes. I don't even have part cases anymore because her too bulky it's so much easier to cost the gig bag over your shoulder and go.

I won't get to play it in a band format for a few days and I'll give an update then I've only played it through headphones so far. If I have time during the week I'll make a video review as well.

Thanks for the review! I don't even Receive my 4 string order yet and now want a 5 (but black). I hadn't noticed the heel contour (very nice touch). That rosewood board looks top notch!

Got my white alder yesterday. Loving it so far. First test tonight with a full band. Here is a helpful picture I found of how the pre amp works if anyone else was confused like me.

I had not noticed it either, but it is there on both my V7s. Might be more noticeable on the newer fretless.

You know - you could pick one up and check it out. If it cuts the mustard, you could then unload a Peavey later (or may find out that it surpasses the DJ5!) and if it doesn't meet the expectations, you can always sell the Sire with no problem - they seem to go the same day they are posted!

Doc is already somewhat familiar with the V7 - he & I got to spend a little bit of time at local music store to check out the Sire and talk bass (pun intended).

Nah, I just like talking shop & want Doc to able to make a well informed decision about the V7.

That's apples to oranges.
I will say that my B string is tight and focused, I don't find myself thinking I need a longer scale at all. When I purchased my 5, whether I was going to keep this bass all came down to how the low B played and sounded since 5 string is my main instrument and I only have the 1 bass, right now anyway.
Also a lot depends on your personal technique and gauge preference, I had to try a couple of different gauges before I was happy.

So what gauge did you end up with? Generally I like my strings high tension.

I get it, I've felt that way since last Spring. So cool to see the backlog clearing and folks getting their basses, I like reading the "box opening reviews".

I settled on a DR DDT .145 for my B. Nut needs a little filing, but perfectly playable as is, and the sound, oh my!
