My V7 is due to arrive tomorrow. I ordered a set of DR fatbeams on Friday, never have been a d'addario fan, except for a set of Slow Wounds they offered for a very short period. I have rehearsals with two bands Monday and Tuesday nights. The Sire WILL be present at both!

So do you have a music store with a guitar tech anywhere nearby? I'd be shocked if they charged more than $40-$50 for the job (ought to be less).

Yeah, I have a few I can go to. The one my teacher recommends who can do it really quickly is off touring with Walk the Moon, so I'm gonna have to go to a place that will fix it for $45 and probably have to wait another week to play my bass. Again, thanks for all the help

I just received my left-handed 4-string V7 today. E string seems a bit low but other than that it's a beauty. I received the t-shirt and the chrome knobs as well. Nice little gift since it took a while to get here.

Got any pictures of the back? I just saw this on their website... never seen a sunburst done this way, but now that I have, I'm sure that's the proper way to do it.

Yeah, the backs aren't bursted, and aren't blacked out, either, the edge and back are the same dark brown stain. Nice to see the wood, I hate when they make bursts opaque on the edges and back.

I dunno what direction to go with strings. I've been using EB Slinkys on the SBMM but might want something else on the sire. Just want punchy mids and not the pingy Marcus sound. Flats don't work for my style either.

The burst is beautiful on the back. Here is a pic of my 5 string ash. This is the best picture I could get to show off the grains. It was a dark place with flash so there is the white spot, but you can see it well.

I'll post some here in a couple of days. I took it in to have it looked over and see about getting the E-string issue taken care of. I'd rather have an expert take care of it than a rookie like myself. One thing I do know, it sounds great! You can see the grain through the finish just like these pictures. I REALLY like my v7.

Beautiful. That says high quality to me. Like bholder said, most manufacturers go full black, opaque. Like they're hiding something. Inferior wood maybe.

Consider Ken Smith Compressions or GHS Pressure Wounds. Just smushed rounds. Still has some bright, but takes away the finger noise. Not tacky like half rounds. I had these on a Lakland 55-02 and loved them. These will be going on my V7 that should be sent this week (hopefully).

Have you tried the EB Cobalts? They can be aggressive in the mids.

Yeah I tried a set on my 4 string stingray and ripped them off after 15 minutes. Hated them.

Yeah I tried a set on my 4 string stingray and ripped them off after 15 minutes. Hated them.

I like to Cobalts, too, they came in 2nd to DR DDTs in my "string-off" for my fretted V7. The DDTs are staying on though. But no getting around personal taste, what is great for one person can be horrible for the next - someone recommended GHS Big Cores - so I tried them - definitely not for me, at least, not on that bass. As always, YMMV.

I like my fretless very very much and it compares very well against other fretless basses, even those in higher price ranges. It'll never dethrone my custom Kania, but I doubt there's much that could (and really a different beast, sound-wise, the Kania is for me the ultimate fretless w/tapes mwah machine, whereas I have Ken Smith Compressors on the V7 fretless).
