I've been looking at these basses because they sound pretty good, but I'm really interested in the Fretless 5 string bass. Anyone have a review of this bass?

I'm interested in the V7. Do you have any recordings of it? How is the B string. And on the ordering page I didn't see an option to be sure it had a rosewood neck. Do you know how to do that?

I do have some recordings of it somewhere, but they're lousy, should make new ones. The B string is excellent, but then again, I'm using an insanely large .145 DR DDT for the B. The very Voice Of God! lol The B string was good before the string swap, even better now.

So the business with the neck is that you choose the neck and body woods together as a combo - ash bodies come with maple fretboards, alder with rosewood fretboards. Can't get the other two combinations without swapping necks. If you want rosewood, order the alder body. Edit: got it backwards, fixed it.

Actually, the monster .145 is on the fretted V7, on the fretless, I'm using Ken Smith Compressors, I forget the gauge. The B is also very very good, though not quite as impressive as that big DDT on the fretted.

Found a short clip, not great playing, but you can hear the sound, only one brief low B, but several other notes on the B string in there. I don't remember what settings I used recording this, but it's active and either flat or nearly flat with a slight boost in the bass and low mids. Pickup balance probably just slightly favoring the neck (just off the center detente enough to get a bit of volume boost is my usual setting).

Let me know if you want more clips, would be happy to, haven't been playing that one so much lately (too many toys to play with lol).

I'm a working musician making a run at it and I've started breaking into the musical scene down here in New Orleans (started). Right now I've got a fender p bass, fender jazz bass, and a sadowsky 5 string, and play upright (my main instrument actually).

The two things I need to invest my money into is more classical/bowing chops, and a fretless electric. Partly because I've wanted to try it for a while and partly because the last musical director told me sometimes its asked for in pit shows.

Long way of saying the sire bass sounds great haha.

Hi guys. Been GAS-ing for new bass for this past six months. After comparing many things, I'm deciding to buy a Sire V7. Originally I want a passive P-Bass or Epiphone Jack Casady, but Sire changed my mind. I'm ordering it today and it will come on early May. Mine will be bright metallic red/alder. Can't wait for the beauty!!!

I don't read anything but good for Sire, but almost everything I read was about the Swamp Ash version or V7 vintage. What about the Alder one? Is the quality as good as the Swamp Ash?

I doubt you could tell the difference in sound or feel between the ash and the alder. The ash might be a little brighter, but that's entirely subjective. FWIW, I love the Epi JC as well, you, sir, have good taste!

Most of the "build" of the body is done by CNC machines, and the same folks do the rest, so virtually identical in quality. My fretted is alder and my fretless is ash, I'd say quality is identical. Anyway, both good choices, the Sire will get you more different tones than the JC due to that wonderful preamp.

Maybe it's my just nervous, because the price difference, I'm afraid the alder one might not as good as the ash one. The preamp is why I choose Sire, because I need the versatility right now

I think the price difference is just because alder is more plentiful and cheaper. Don't worry so much, it'll be fine.

There will be virtually no difference in tone or quality due to body wood.

Fretboard wood-- rosewood vs maple-- will make a difference in tone (maple will be brighter-sounding) but one is not "better" than the other, it is a player preference thing and done people prefer rosewood and others maple. I have baases with both.

That's why I went with the Vintage Alder. Best of both worlds.

The bass finally arrived~~ and it is a sweet sweet looking, sound, feeling instrument. Everything works as supposed to. Just under 10 lbs. A bit heavier than my MTD but lighter than expected. Action is on a tad high side but nothing to complain about.

The build quality on my M7 is flawless, I have found nothing to complain about. Feel in hand is very good, it's sleek and lightweight, easy to reach the highest frets. The sound is great, even more flexible than the V7s due to the pickup switching options. I read that there is a neck reinforcement bar, but there's nothing I can see from outside the bass to verify that. I assume it's internal like the truss rod.
