I'm thinking about a fretless V7... but hate the weight and I'd prefer a flatter radius and smoother edges to the fingerboard. I love the sound of the bass. So I've actually thought of using Sire electronics in a parts bass... or just dealing with the weight and swapping the neck on my sire.

Does anyone know whether the neck pocket is the standard Fender size? And how about the pickups? Do they fit a standard Jazz rout?

I believe it is a Fender size pocket... I don't know for sure though.

Well it wasn't that the strings had come unwound or anything mechanical so the V7 has been parcelled up and is on its way back to Germany for a refund, I didn't opt for an exchange as I want to be sure I have a working bass in my hands before I pay over any cash. When the refund money hits my account that's when the quandry starts - do I accept I just got a rogue bass and buy another Sire or, on the once bitten twice shy principle, do I pay more for a pukka Fender?

Sooo, Finally (in a bad way) I'm having some issues with my M2s preamp.
Before I make a post in electronics section, thought I give it a shot hear.

To start off : Don't know if the problem was there all along or it is recent. I used this bass in band practices and in couple of gigs, with no problems. Yesterday I decided to plug it for a recording session and noticed this thing.

It is with a Mid knob, not the one that boosts/cuts, but the one that selects frequencies. Once I turn it full to Hid mid side, almost at the end of rotation there is quite a loud pop.
I never noticed this before, because I never used that knob much, or to that side - but yesterday I decided to look for some different tones and that's when it occurred.
Apart from a quite loud pop into my headphones, the mixer (Focusrite) of course clipped as hell.

I remember having similar issues with Ibanez bass, but I never resolved it as I was selling that bass.

Any solutions on how to fix this issue? Maybe some cleaning solution, etc. or preamp should be taken out for any fixes.

I wouldn't bet on it. From Sire's perspective, that itch has been scratched. Leave the bridge pickup off and the bass in passive and you've got your P bass, just with extra knobs.

Hey, Marcus Miller don't do p basses these days, the PJ is the only compromise he would agree to. lol joking of course..I think. A P bass would be nice though but somehow I'm not seeing it.

I own a Music Man Stingray 5 that I purchased from Guitar Center WITH a known defect for a discount. When the volume contol was turned up almost all the way, the sound suddenly dropped and distorted. I could feel a difference in the pot physically when it did this. I got a GOOD discount and took it home. I called Music Mans help line and eventually was transferred to a GREAT guy who, when I told him I wanted to buy a new volume control, said he would send me one - no charge - in the mail. He did, I changed the pot and it has been a great bass for 10 years now. You shouldn't EXPECT miracles, but who knows, it COULD happen again! Good luck.

My first Sire and first 5 string. I think this bass is pretty sweet. I kind of panicked for a night about the tight string spacing but now it seems to be working out pretty nicely. Really impressed with the fretwork and overall tone. The strings feel really slinky, do you know what strings they normally ship with?

Sire USA has been known to provide replacement parts on occasion free of charge even to out-of-warranty basses (such as a Sire bass bought from another private party). They do try to take care of their customers. However, Thomann is probably a different ball of wax.

Yeaaa, Thomann does have their warranty, but I rather not send a whole bass back to them, for them to change a pot.
I guess I will take it to my local luthier to look into, but it is such a minor issue, that probably that will not happen too soon, hehe.

Anyway, as we are talking preamp on Sire basses - anyone has their favorite EQ points?
Would like to try some of your examples. As lately I was playing passive only on my M2.

My favorite setting is almost flat, with just a slight bump to the bass and lower mids. Just nudged a smidge up off the center detente.

I think you just got a lemon. Mine came in perfect. I made only minor setup adjustments. I would buy another if I could justify it. (P3!!!!!!)

Strings are D'Addario nickels.

Nice choice..........I've had mine for well over 3 years now. Sounded great at Friday nights gig!

In the last couple of weeks I'm having fun with cutting down the main volume, passive tone at 80%, boosting treble and bass almost to the end and cutting the low mids almost completely.

It's interesting how musical the preamp remains even at some of the more extreme settings, there was a similar video a while back by a different author showcasing another fairly extreme setting that happened to sound great - maybe the bridge pickup soloed with treble cut but bass maxed or something odd like that, don't remember specifics but it really worked.

The preamp is indeed very musical. I almost never play the bass passive, in fact I don't really like the passive neck pickup sound (V7).

WHEW!!! Three late nights straight and finally finished reading all 555 pages of this Sire Bass club thread. At first reading from page 1, 2015 thread start, I felt sure I'd be buying a new V7-5, still wasn't sure if alder or ash. Then as I read along and found some Utube videos, the V3 and M2 caught my interest. Esp at those prices.

But now after all this reading and video viewing, I'm thinking a P7-5 alder/rwd is gona be it. And still not sure on what color combo. Plus I also read here where a TBer said his SB5000 was just better than the V7-5. I have a very nice SB5000 that covers my jazz bass needs.

Now, while reading this long thread, seems some folks said the 5 stringers were 18mm or 19mm at bridge. I'm thinking this new P7-5 is gona be 18mm at bridge, correct?

I was very close to ordering a new 55-02D next week to replace my much missed '02 55-02D Cherryburst I sold here a couple years ago. I already have a '08 MIA P5, standard, Cola/Maple. But it's been parked in it's case a few months now after I went on a Ibby binge last year; bought new, SRSC805 and a Portamento FL-5. Those basses getting alot of use these days. Heck my Valenti J5 hasn't seen daylight in months, I know, that ain't right. But mostly doing lower volume, restaurant gigs with 4pc, semi-acoustic band lately. Either of the Ibby's or my kit built Carvin mahogany. fretless, J5 covers those gigs great.

I just took my '15 MIM J5 active,deluxe, Blonde/Rwd to new blues-rock-variety bands' practice to see if it'll stay around, it rarely gets played. I think the passive mode and mid-sweep of a Sire may be what I'm missing with that MIM ADJ5.
Haven't ever owned a PJ. I played a MIM PJ-5 in store many years ago, didn't love it. Bought a MIM Standard J5 that day.
But liking what I'm seeing/hearing of the Sire P7-5 alder/rwd. I know I'll be saving some bucks, always good, so here's hoping I don't regret not replacing my 55-02D with this Sire purchase. I've read of alot of happy customers here...so, we'll see. peace y'all, e.
