@Jim C - there's your "weight point", on a P7 5 string! So I'd say the chances of a 4 coming in under 8.5 have to be pretty good. (I'll have to re-weigh my P7 5er, I forget what it comes in at.)
My P7 ash/maple fretless 5er comes in at 9.4 pounds, heavier than @gregbackstrom's but mine is ash/maple. Even so, the 8.5 range seems likely for a 4, especially if you get alder (though the ash and alder weight ranges do overlap, alder averages lighter).
I have a P7 4 string Alder. It's about 8.5 pounds. It's an ok bass but it has not met my expectations. I decided to buy it after reading this thread and many reviews, and from all of that I was probably given higher expectations than I should have had. My complaints are that the neck is WAY too skinny and the pickups on mine are not very good at all. The bridge looks kind of cheap too tbh. I don't think they put a lot of effort into designing the P7 compared to the V7.
Joining the club. Jazz pickup kind of weak compared to the P pickup volume wise.. without much room for it to be closer to the strings. But if that starts to bother me I might just replace the jazz pickup in the future. Passive tone is good.. but man when you add just a tiny bit of bass with the active EQ thing sounds so powerful. According to the bathroom scale it's under 10lbs bassed on me standing on it with and without the bass strapped on. Surprisingly still has quite a bit of definition with the tone rolled off. Loving the mid sweeper.
For both my first 5 and P/J though.. I think I'm a happy camper. Didn't expect to like the active EQ so much but yum.
*Edit* holy crap this thing is versatile after listening to it through my DT 770 M's. My little Fender amp can't handle cranking the active eq's with the amp's volume at like 8-9 oclock without lowering the volume on the bass. My only other experience with active eq's on a bass is my sr-500, and it can't pull off the tones this P7 is capable of.. can even make the jazz pickup a beefy tone monster with the pre-amp. I mean.. I'm not saying it's better than anybody's boutiques, or trying to compare it to anything other than my two passive fender bass guitars and my sr500... but WOW. this thing can do fat lows, bright, clear highs, punchy mids.. by no means are you limited to "Marcus Miller tone." (He's a bad*** but his name being on it isn't what sold me on the bass, buying mostly blind on the tonal qualities.) The passive tone controls have a bigger effect than I first realized as well. Having only owned this thing one day, I'm sure I will find more things to like about this bass. I think it's my new favorite at the moment.

I tried to gently remove the buttons from the controls of my V7, in order to lower the controls on the control plate. Buttons came off pretty easily. During removal I appearantly kinda damaged the pickup balance and treble controls internally. Thank goodness the controls still work, but they turn pretty loosely and I no longer have centre detent on them. I was/am gutted, my V7 was just awesome until that moment.
Anyone have any suggestions what to do? Can this be fixed?

wrote a response but now after looking at my bass more closely, the only knobs that have something to loosen and tighten on my P7 are the bottom halves of the stacked knobs and the top parts and every other knob are slide on/slide off. I'm unsure about the knobs on the V7, wether they're slide on/off as well or have a fastener..
but if you look at your knobs and they don't have a little hole on the outer edges.. I'd be contacting sire to see about a replacement pre-amp if your pots are damaged from sliding them off.
Pots are soldered to a PCB with this pre-amp..meaning difficult or near impossible to replace. Though a skilled engineer might say differently.

I did unscrew the lower part of the stacked knobs, these were the only ones that were screwed tight. The others were supposed to slide off. They did, but eventually a little part of the shaft of the two controls was slightly pulled up simultaneously, apparently rendering them damaged.
Any idea what a new preamp would set me back? I'm from Europe, so I'll probably have to pay additional import fees as well. Maybe I can find myself a used preamp.
According to threads on this forum, not sure how recent a replacement pre-amp is like $75 USD. I'd convert that to Euro. You guys do things differently in Europe than we do in the states. Check with the retailer you bought the bass and find out about warranty coverage. I think Sire Basses have a 1 year limited warranty, and I could be wrong but I think European law puts that burden on the retailer. You might get it replaced for free if you've had it within that timeframe. If you bought it directly from Sire they might as well. But I don't work for them or anything, and I live in the US. I only just got my first Sire bass.

what a beautiful piece of art. I have my V10 now for a couple of weeks and still can´t believe how good that instrument is. If one digs nice woods and an awesome shaped neck, the up-price is no problem.
My 5 string is
9.6 pounds and balances very nicely.
I have a P7-4. How is the 7.25 radius on the 5 string P7, or the V7 for that matter? Too round? Just as comfortable as 9.5? Would I notice the difference?

So this bass is just getting better every day as it settles in
The tones are just awesome
My last Sire I had I did not like the strings
So for this Sire I picked up some DR Hi-Beams but I haven't put them on yet as I am really starting to like the strings it came with
Passive mode on this is killer! I play a lot in Passive
When I do go active so far I have been keeping it flat or adding a little treble and bass depending on the tone I want
I haven't done a setup yet
It was really setup well when I got it
I planned on doing a setup when I changed out the strings but as mentioned the strings are playing great
A quick note to also chime in on Papuzzo's question
This is my first 7.25 radius and it is great
I was worried about the extra curvature as well but it is not bothering me at all
In fact is feels better than the 9.5 to me

I have played both 4 and 5 string V7, and you will notice a difference.
Make sure you set the witness point. That makes a huge difference, particularly on a B string.
