My V7 has saved my bacon! At church, we have a guest music director for the Women's Day program in September. He has far more chops than our regular director and plays loud! At the first rehearsal, the volume made me unsure of my intonation on my Pedulla. My Carvin SB5000 sounded great, but when I used my V7 and cranked the mids a bit, my sound totally came alive! That budget bass got it done where my other two much more expensive basses left something to be desired. Sound wise, I do not think my V7 is second to any bass.

I bought my V7 3yrs ago from Thomann and are still happy with it. I use it quite frequently for my cover bands and sub jobs.

However, there seems to be an issue now with the tuners. Although always maintained and properly lubricated they seem to wear out now after permanent use and I'd like to replace them soon. Any suggestions which tuners to use for replacement ?

That sweep mids control is the magic in the Sire preamp. I hardly tough the other controls, and keep them flat.

Contact Sire direct. Sounds like you may have gotten some of the first tuners. They will help you out.

Some folks complain the mids controls are "too complicated". To which I say "With great freedom comes great responsibility". :D Or, to quote Devo: "Freedom from Choice is what you want, Freedom of Choice is what you've got". :D:D

I have certainly complained the mids are too complicated, but they made a world of difference cutting through dense keyboards and a choir last night. My SB5000 is a heavenly Seventies style slap machine, but it lacked the power my V7 had last night. My Pedulla has tons of mids because it is a PJ, and I may use it at the big service, but the frets on the V7 really seems to give these songs what they need.

It's an amazingly good value bass (especially at used price... £400 so around probably around $400US with taxes) and I initially thought of it as a low cost way to work out if I can get my head around the whole fretless thing. Then (via a few setup tweaks to get the action nice and low) I started to get into it, and... oh my... this is a lovely bass. It has instantly made its way to the top of my (quite short) list of favourite basses ever and is right up there with my Sandberg five string (which cost, new, about four times the price of a new Sire). It is that good. It won't turn me into a Jaco/Pino (nothing will) but it sounds fantastic and feels just right. Love it. First maple fretboard I've played, too, so a nice contrast with my other basses.

The only oddity is that the bass EQ seems to be set to cut or boost around 20Hz (according to the guide for the controls I've found online). It seems strange to set that band so low, beyond where I normally use my Broughton HPF/LPF (I set the slope at around 40-50Hz). I just leave the bass EQ flat... boosting just adds mud (as you'd expect if this really is centred at 20Hz). Not sure what the thinking is there. But otherwise... pretty flawless. Now I've just got to learn how to play it properly!

Yes, my criticism of the pre-amp is that the bass and tone-treble is set WAY too low and high, pretty much unusable. If you try to use the bass as a pass filter, you may have more luck.

Really, I think of it as a parametric mid booster, instead of a normal 3 band or something.

It has finally happened I have seen my first Sire M3 or of any Sire line on Craig's list. Here are the shots. I thought it worth mentioning when the line hit the Craigslist. oh yeah I bought it :P)

It's a standard Fender pick guard so as you can see on the lower horn it's not a perfect fit. But although a great bass as far as wood and finish goes I really don't like those kind if veneer tops. I wish they would've made it an all ash body with very light finish to match the feel of the neck. But they didn't and it's still a fantastic instrument. The neck is to die for if you like me are brought up on the 70's jazzbass.

I've only had one gig so far, and this bass did not disappoint. I also have a P7 5 that has been my #1 gigging bass the past couple years.
