OK, I need to retract my earlier statement about the output, it's not really that low. I'll admit 2 dumb things that I did:
1. The low action prevented me from stroking like I do on all of my other basses.
2. The amp I plugged into wasn't my practice bass amp.
Soooo, tonight I drug out the V7 plugged them both in my practice bass amp and did the following:
1. I bumped the gain on the pre a little to get it to equal the passive output with the pre set flat.
2. I raised the strings a little. It's still not as high as the V7, but it's at least less awkward for me.
So here's how it compares:
The M7 in single coil mode, IS a little lower in output than the V7,
in parallel mode it has basically the same output and
in series mode it is louder than the V7.
I still may have to raise the strings some more.
Oh, and the outer coils on the M7 (which are the ones used in single coil mode are 1/16th of an inch farther apart then the V7 coils, an IMO it does a reasonable J impersonation.

Congratulations! Beautiful bass....I own 2 american fenders and a 5 string p7,the Sire sounds and plays just as good!For the first time in many years, I actually am celebrating a NBD! I picked up this P7 recently, and am absolutely loving it! It was great right out of the box. The intonation was spot on, I just lowered the action some. The combination of the preamp and the passive option gives me tons of sound options to work with. Fit and finish are outstanding. Does it sound better than an American Fender or Sadowsky? Shoot, I have no idea. I am always on the budget side of the bass aisle, so I don't think I've even test played either of those. I do know that I can't think of a situation that I couldn't use the P7 in.
Thanks! It's really nice to have a bass again that speaks to me. I find it hard to put down.

Depends what body the V7 has. The 4-string Alder ones were around USD600 new and the Ash USD700. The 5-string V3s are USD440. Of course the V7 1G is older. If both are used, of course neither one is worth that now. Depending on the conditions of the two basses, you might ask for a little cash along with the V3 to get your V7. But then, if you got the V7 second hand and didn't pay new price for it, I'd think you might just do the trade.
One last V7 fretless 5-string for super cheap!

I have been a player for much of my life and have owned some of the best custom basses ever including my last which was a custom F-Bass BN6 which you may have seen lots of times here. I'm however no longer an active stage player and have reduced the bass heard over the last year including the heartbreak of selling that F-Bass. So my search to find the right fretted 5 string led me to a Sire P7 Gen 2. I have had one now for just a few days and there are already some worries. The bridge is super cheap on the one I got, I have seen many photos with a higher mass bridge but mine came with the old style Fender barrel bridge, hate those, intonation is a challenge. I can't seem to find a simple swap out solution due to the narrow string spacing and body through string capability. Second, although the preamp sounds good the controls are going to drive me crazy coming from the F-Bass. I would much rather NOT have a pickup blend control but rather a separate volume of each pickup (as F-Bass does it). I have seen where some have installed an Aguliar pre in these but it does not look like the right solution for me. Any help would be great.....
I believe AlBridge makes a drop-in replacement bridge named Duralumin. Had a hard time finding a 5-string on line, but there is a 4-string here:

On the 2nd Generation P5 (5-string in my case), anybody have issues with the truss-rod: specifically finding a well-fitting wrench, and not stripping the nut?
The wrench that came with mine was too long, so I am having to use another wrench. I have a 4mm wrench that fits, but there is a bit of "play". I do not want to strip the nut.
I have always found a bit of play when adjusting truss-rods (which always made e nervous), but I am short on money now, and being extra careful. I saw some old posts here, but they seemed specific to the gen 1 basses.

I spoke with the Sire US tech rep and he was nice and all but basically told me there is no bridge or tuner direct replacement. He all but said that Sire has chosen to use cheap Chinese hardware that in in no way anywhere near standard so easy upgrades are just not possible. I get that these are budget instruments but really bad choice using such bad hardware and hardware that so non-standard. I really do not want to end up with a Frankenbass so it's going back.
