Played at church with my V5 yesterday, finally fitted with the Dimarzio Area J pickups. I know is a matter of personal taste, but I like the tone better with this pickups, they are fuller and no so bright as the stock MM.

Guitar tech had to use and modify a bit the original cases as the Dimarzio didn't fit the routing, but he did a great job. Pole pieces align perfectly.

This is my first post here, so I hope I'm right in this thread - I'm gonna get my first bass soon and I've decided on a Sire MM, but I don't know whether to get a V3 or V7. Is there a big difference between the two, and is the price difference justified?

The V3 and V7 do have different pickups, but I haven't heard anyone say they can hear much difference. I play a 1G V7 and a 2G V3 every gig with a band, and as close as I can get to the same settings, they sound the same to me. Only reason I'm buying a new V7 and not a V3 is I want a fretless (and that amazing burgundy mist color!).

I think the V3 is a stunning value in the bass guitar biz.

The new knobs arrived today. I managed to order the new OEM Sire "Modern Black Aluminum" knobs from Thomann. They fit perfectly on my M7 2019. The great thing about these knobs are that they are press on - same as the OEM plastic knobs (except for the lower part of the dual stacked ones that is screw on). This means that they won't screw up the fine threads on the top part of the pots!

Nice! Area J + Sire V series = tonal goodness. My heavily modded V7 Vintage is probably my favorite jazz.

V3 good place to start as a beginner... Very good choice!! This gives you a competent instrument to get going... Many of us started on axes that were a bit less than competent, not very playable... Don't let a little blood or blisters on your fingers stop you... Enjoy/embrace your calluses, they come with time and effort...(Super glue is a great quick fix... Always kept it in my equip suitcase... Taught skiing -- sweaty hands in and out of gloves can compromise the callus come gig time, apre` ski--- would super glue the callus right back on to get through the gig)...

You can grow into the bass, then as your skills grow, like most of us here get the GAS bug...GAS bloating!!
your starting with a good instrument...treat it right!! Respect it... Clean your hands before you play ( got that from an old blues guy)
Get a Guitar stand to put it in, don't lean it on things-- it will fall over, get knocked over by your drunk best friend, or some chick enthralled by your bass magnetism, maybe she might try picking you axe up trying to play it and oops... (Just give her lessons instead)
Get a good gig bag or case...
At college-----, insure it & Protect it so it doesn't get stollen... Read your roommates the riot act about your equipment a/or find someplace to lock it up that is safe from "dormisms"
Most of all, play baby play!!!
Keep us all here posted on how you are doing ... Were like big brothers, wanting you to be great!!

NBD yesterday! Been jonesing for one of these for MONTHS, finally found one on the bay for surprisingly low $$ -- and NOBODY bid against me! So glad I found an older (2019) one with the darker burst, drastically prefer this to the basically yellow clear center they're doing now. And LOVE LOVE LOVE the matching headstock -- nothing cooler! 2G alder, guess everybody wants the swamp ash - so be it!

Gonna take a while to figure out what to do with all the pickup switch settings, but fun work! Can't WAIT to get her in front of people!

Yes, I've already ordered the black aluminum barrel knobs. Fortunately these stock ones came off without breaking anything.

Thanks, I'm loving it so far! Good selection of nice solid tones, at least in the basement by myself.

One oddness I will report is that the upper horn strap pin only comes to the 14th fret, and with the 35" scale, I have to watch where I'm going, because everything is a fret or two further to the left than I'm used to on my other basses.

Are your treats finished off... Buffed smooth??
Found mine were a bit rough, not buffed smooth, had to take some fine grit to them...
Also, when I checked my control cavity, noticed the copper tape looked like it had been scissor cut by a drunk monkey... Jagged, not even close to the edges of cavity... QC as asleep that day!!
Let me/us k is what you find!... Anyone else too, I'd be interested to know if others have found these issues on an otherwise nice instrument!

This is my first post here, so I hope I'm right in this thread - I'm gonna get my first bass soon and I've decided on a Sire MM, but I don't know whether to get a V3 or V7. Is there a big difference between the two, and is the price difference justified?

I have owned both and there isn`t a lot in it but if you can afford the V7 go for that one. Better hardware and if you decide to move it on down the line it has slightly better re sale value. But they are both good basses so good luck with whatever one you choose!

First, remember this thing was built in 2019.

Haven't looked inside at the shielding. Did not notice any buzz when I played it.

But I did notice some fret sprout on the higher frets on the treble (hand) side. I have a few tools and could possibly handle it myself, but will probably wind up taking it to my guy so I don't shred up the board!

Fretless V7 5 in Burgundy Mist... oh my heavens, isn't she BEAUTIFUL? And SPARKLY! And that sexy-as-all-GIT-out matching headstock -- NOTHING like it!

Could NOT find one here in the States, and 2 months away for the soonest... so I took a chance and ordered one from Anderton's in the UK. They had 3 in stock. I ordered it late Saturday, called them Sunday to be sure it was fretless (since the website photos are of a fretted), they shipped it Monday, and at arrived today Tuesday afternoon! Plus, total shipped price over $100 *less* than the USA one! Minor heart palpitation when the outer box showed up with a tear across one face from one side to the other, but fortunately didn't get through to the Sire box which is in perfect shape.

Added bonus: I have not opened up the controls plate, but it VERY much seems as though Sire has put a heavier capacitor on the master passive tone. Gets WAY darker than my older ones seemed to.

I'M THRILLED!

In other news, my 2G V7 fretless 5 TS is going up on the blocks, as I truly don't need two of the same bass. MINT condition, been to like two open mics and a rehearsal, bought new less than a year ago. DM me to talk and for pics before I put it up in the Classifieds.
