Hi. I have a V7 2nd ben 4 strings and I broke a screw at the back of the bridge. Do you know the dimensions of this screw and is it possible to replace this bridge with a better one ? And does Sire sell modern s bridge ?
Thanks !

So my local GC had the P7 5 String in stock just today. Played it and found it comfortable with a great sounding P pickup, which many 5 strings can't seem to do. Setup was already pretty good, fret ends were smooth, all electronics working.

So I bought it and brought it home. Put on some DR Sun Beams and needed to adjust the truss.

Can't get the key to go into the hole, check the size and a few different keys, still no luck. It looks like the truss nut isn't lined up right with the opening...

Sucks, I'll return tomorrow

Really wish they got their QC game together, I don't know if I want to risk buying another

I've bought two Sires sight-unseen. Both from Thomann, both were great out of the box. They were even largely in tune (E string was a little flat). It truly is the luck of the draw, but the point is that, even though Sire is pumping out a lot of instruments as fast as they can, their hit-to-miss ratio is still very high. It wasn't this way just a couple of years ago, but they've upped their game a lot.

Incidentally, I pulled the trigger on a SBMM Ray 34 recently. However, I never got it because the truss rod was f*c#ed beyond repair. On a brand new, just out of the box instrument. So, it happens. It sucks, but it happens. I hope the brain trust at GC can tweak your new axe back to operational, but don't give up. If they have to get you a replacement, take it home and evaluate it. It's all we can do.

That sucks, sorry to hear!

I don't think a sample size of one is enough to be called representative of the entire product line - hard to make generalizations based solely on your bass. You can get more feedback by skimming the earlier posts in this thread, & in the precursor thread (you can start at about the last third of the thread, when ppl start receiving V7s & M3s) to this one:

TWO new Marcus Miller budget signature model basses!

To answer your question, the frets & the control cavity on my V7 are good. However, I have one of the first 1,000 Sires; if you have one built later, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, your experience may be different. Staffing problems are Global, & training people while maintaining social distance is not easy. No excuses; yet it's hard to to make generalizations based on one example.

Full disclosure, I haven't played a boutique nor a flawlessly setup bass yet, so the best I can do is compare my instruments to photos. Once I do try 1 or a few, it's possible I might reassess my instruments. Yet I can say from reading TB threads for 7 years that I can't think of a bass manufacturer (maybe Ritter or Roscoe, I'm proofreading & had some time to think) that didn't have a bass that needed fret ends dressed. Now, I haven't read about every manufacturer, & I'm confident some have fewer errors, & less often, than others, but even more than one Stradivarius has had to have some issues fixed. Wood reacts to the environment - humidifiers sell for a reason.

All that, & other ppl's experiences, doesn't help your bass. How is the neck & the rest of your bass? How does it sound? How does it feel when you pick it up? If the rest of the bass is good, & the frets are level, then it's worth filing the fret ends & fixing up the cavity shielding. A search of Sire threads on TB (the first ones were 'What's Sire?', then 'This Sire's Great!', then a bunch of 'Sire's as Good as__', 'No Way Sire's as Good as boutique' ...now there aren't many 'No Way Sire's') will show that Sire is a serious competitor that makes basses that are accessible to beginners & can be played professionally. Is Sire a $700 boutique bass? No, so don't expect it to meet that high standard. A Sire can compete - and win - against a MiM, & some other basses.

Please... Relax... I'm not disparaging the brand... I really dig my M5... Since I got it, about half year ago, I've played no other of my basses... And, have stated in this club thread bow much I enjoy this bass...
So, my point is that, there are issues with QC at this factory in Indonesia-- you can reference Picnic01 issues above with a brand new Truss rod problem...
This Club thread is rife with issues with the stock instruments and mods to correct those issues...
So, I'm not inferring that "a sample of one" represents the brand as a whole... and please do not put words in my mouth... I'm pointing out a specific issue (s) and asking if anyone/Eli had experienced this issue...
Or any other issues...
There are issues with the QC st Sire... If the decision makers were smart, they would monitor, even participate in this thread to get immediate feedback...

If all of us here didn't like/love our Sire basses, we wouldn't be in this "club"... We should be able to talk about the nuances, good and/or bad about our Sires...

A Hipshot Style A .708 bridge is perfect replacement, smart installation, no need for additional holes in the body, you may just opt for 2 more holes in the bridge, only if you wish...

NBD AGAIN!!!

Fretless V7 5 in Burgundy Mist... oh my heavens, isn't she BEAUTIFUL? And SPARKLY! And that sexy-as-all-GIT-out matching headstock -- NOTHING like it!

Could NOT find one here in the States, and 2 months away for the soonest... so I took a chance and ordered one from Anderton's in the UK. They had 3 in stock. I ordered it late Saturday, called them Sunday to be sure it was fretless (since the website photos are of a fretted), they shipped it Monday, and at arrived today Tuesday afternoon! Plus, total shipped price over $100 *less* than the USA one! Minor heart palpitation when the outer box showed up with a tear across one face from one side to the other, but fortunately didn't get through to the Sire box which is in perfect shape.

Added bonus: I have not opened up the controls plate, but it VERY much seems as though Sire has put a heavier capacitor on the master passive tone. Gets WAY darker than my older ones seemed to.

I'M THRILLED!

Congrats on your bass! Anderson's does a great job of shipping to the us.

Sorry for misleading you with my miserable reply above (it's too late now to edit or delete), as I was with a 5-stringer in mind. :bored:

MAYBE if the P7 is good @picnic01 , there's a way to have GC pay for the repair of having the hole reamed out a little. It's as if the bass is 99% complete and then gets abandoned and it's such a simple fix to someone who has worked on guitars. No sense in throwing the baby out with the bathwater IF you think everything else about it is worth keeping. Just playing Devil's Advocate.

My P7 is a first gen, it's clunky and heavy at over 10 lbs, the neck joint is crooked, BUT it's THE best sounding / playing P/J I own next to my Peavey.

I don't know. Just doesn't give me a lot of faith in the bass. I'm going to think about it

Yes, yes, and yes... I'm one of the earliest Sire owners, have 2 P7s (1st gen), and I've read literally every word in the 802 pages of this thread, and if there is one thing consistently clear about Sires, besides that *most* people who buy one love them... it's that there are QC issues. Frets are the #1 offender, then knobs (or pots getting messed up pulling the knobs) neck/truss rod issues, tuners and bridges, and rarely nuts, electronics (1st gen had more issues with the preamp), pickups, and pots.

I am a FAN of the Sire and recommend them to tons of people, but I am not a FANBOI of Sire and I can be realistic about them.

My P7 2nd gen is one of the best basses I have ever held in my hands. The fit up and finish is flawless, the pickups sound amazing, no noise, great action, incredible sustain, good balance, 9.4 lbs, just a work of art.

However, the outer tone knob would move the volume knob and vice versa. The aluminum knobs are an improvement, but the outer ring is so flexible overtightening the set screw can cause this issue. I saw a reviewer pan the bass based solely on this issue.

I recently had to return an M5 with fret sprout that would saw wood, but I have another on order and I have been waiting 3 months.

Sire has some issues; right now most manufacturers are having a terrible time finding competent help. They are still far and away the best bang for the buck with some truly exceptional products.

You do bring up a good point - @picnic01 already HAS the bass, and likes it, aside from the issue at hand, so the minimum 3 month wait on a bass that may be perfect, or not, so it's a decision worth considering. A tough decision !

My new M5 is flat out great. I love how it feels and plays. It arrived with some fret sprout, but not nearly THAT bad. My luthier is taking care of it while it's on the table for a pro setup. It's a quick and simple fix with a far better result than I could muster, I'm sure. I'd much rather go this route than have to wait for a replacement that might or might not be in the same or worse shape. But it's a personal choice every individual must make.
