This is another Sire preamp. I'm actually really happy with the sound/options I get from the stock preamp.
But info on any wire that attaches to the C18 terminal would be appreciated.

The Fender 5 string pickups are the same size as the Sire pickups . On my Sire V-3 5 string I put a set of Fender size 60's wind Nordstrands . They fit perfectly and I love the sound of them but they aren't a huge upgrade to the Sire pickups , they sounded great too . So the Fender pickups will fit but I don't know that they will be a great improvement .
GC posted an M7 for sale for $799. When I called they said it was just in for service. Crazy.
I hear you about reading the news of the past couple of years... I deliberately watch comedy like Frazier reruns to make me gut laugh... Also Raymond, Sienfeld, Cheers -- Spinal Tap for the Nth time... Need those laugh endorphins... News will turn you into an unhealthy cinic!!
I bet your right that Sire is above the average/mean with QC... And, Mickey Cho seems to have our best interests ar heart... he WANTS us to have good/competent instruments, for less coin than the biggies... I support him in that endeavor!! -- I really do...
I have been impressed with what I have heard in interviews with him... He had a vision, and followed through on that vision, and it has impacted thousands of people in a very positive way...
In that light, we, here, are Mickey Cho/Sire fans, (not sycophants)and we have somewhat "champaign problem" discussions about the issues of our basses... But I don't feel, that in anyway, are they are mean spirited... and always focus on the solution to the problems, not just carping endlessly about them!
You don't see many/any in here dumping their basses ( I did buy mine from a TBer, who bought a M7 and an M5 and liked the sound of the M7 better-- so I got a virtually new M5... Right time right place, and a little sweet talking to my little wifey)
Another big plus of the Sire brand seems to be the Cust. Serv. ... My guess, the CS is a reflection of Mickey Cho and his vision/business plan-- to serve the musician/bassist!
So, again I hope they monitor this Sire Club thread to get honest feedback from people who enjoy the product, and want the brand to succeed -- the very least reason being so that we can buy more Sires!!

I think a general feeling is that the preamp is one of the strengths of the Sires... I would refer you to LowEnd Lobster who has done a whole lot of testing and mods... You might find your answer with him...

Pretty sure the duty threshold is $800. I got a V7 5er from Anderton's a week and a half ago, price brand new with shipping was $635, and no duty. Bought it Saturday night and it was here by Chicago on Monday afternoon!
Got this from Anderton's about a month ago...fast delivery as well, and it ended up being cheaper than prices quoted in the US (shipping included)
Only kink with Anderton's is you have to hope you get a good one, because the order says the warranty is only good in the UK. Which I suppose means you can return it, but I'm sure you'd have to pay the shipping back, and Heaven knows what awaits in that case. I was lucky, and they do a final check in their shop on every instrument before ship.

Even because I can't find another (cheap) staggered pole pickup for the bridge that will match good with the MM Neck pickup.
Maybe I should wait better times (for money) and search for a GOOD used set of Aguilar AG-5J HC...

Laughter is always good! It's also important to know what's going on. Everything in moderation, including Moderation.
Sire is like any other company: some customers really like it, some kinda, some kinda dislike like, & some really dislike it. The difference between companies is how big the like & dislike customer groups are. Some TBers posted on the thread about problems with their Sire & haven't posted since, & some have never posted here, but on other threads have mentioned they had problems with a Sire & got rid of it. Can't please all the ppl all the time; the issue is is the company striving to improve (Six Sigma, Kaizen are 2 ways to try to achieve that).
Sire has read the TB threads before - no guarantee they still are - but based on previous posts they have been serious about delivering quality & satisfying customers, & I think it's reasonable to expect that behavior to continue. The results will show whether they do.
I've been looking into the same sort of issue - a flatulent B string. I ended up doing a few things, but I think changing the string was the killer. I found that my downstream setup (amp, compressor etc.) wasn't ideal, so sorted that out. But I ended up thinking that my B string was the wrong size. I tried a couple of different ones (was running a 0.050 to 0.135 set). I tried a 0.130 from Ernie Ball, no improvement. So I bought a 0.120 from D'Addario and that is perfect. It matches the sound of the rest of the strings much, much better. Great success.
That's funny. I live about 10 minutes away from Anderton's and it would take exactly the same amount of time for me to order something online from them before I could collect it!
