Not as cheap, but I once used dots from a silver paint-pen... though the clear nail polish sounds pretty goodSomething I did and it is a $1.50 investment is to go to the Dollar Store and get clear gloss nail polish and put a dab on each fret marker. Just by playing and the light in the room you will always see a reflection very easily. They also have glow in the dark nail polish, so that works, too. I find the clear is the least intrusive and does the trick.
EDIT : Duh, if I had just looked up I would've seen @Rod Barchetta suggesting the same thing.
I love how Sire has a lighter level of roast for the FB depending on the body color. Classy of them
