Find something that weight approximately 2.5 oz. and hang it off your headstock. You will then know what the effect is.
As stated before. I hold my bass at a 30 degree up angle and do not notice that kind of weight difference. That is why I do not understand people having to hold their bass totally horizontally and then deal with neck dive.

Any opinions on the P8 or has one?
While I do not have one, I can tell you the P7 is awesome and the appoitments, Bridge etc should make that P8 bass really nice. I was going to get one but in the end settled on the P7 for almost $300 cheaper and I really love it. I pulled the pickguard off tonight and was really surprised at the quality, workmanship, and very nicely shielded and grounded. The necks are heavenly to play. Bone nut nicely cut, intonation spot on and each note of each fret right on the money using a Peterson Strobo Stomp Virtual Strobe Tuner. Even my Fender American Professional was not quite this good quality. It is good but wow is this bass nice! At some point after their one year parts and labor warranty runs out I am likely to replace that SPDT switch with a DPDT and wire it to also break the battery + voltage to the preamp when in passive mode so the battery is not using up the battery while in passive mode and plugged. That will also allow me to keep it plugged in while taking a break by flipping it into passive mode.

I guess I am struggling to understand how 0.16lbs (2.56 oz.) increase makes it so much heavier that it becomes uncomfortable to play.

It's not because the bass becomes noticably heavier on your shoulder, it's because it shifts the balance point and makes it neck heavy.

If this balance gets moved too far towards the neck side, you'll find yourself fighting the bass every time you play it; having to hold the neck up while trying to fret notes and slide up and down the neck. It gets really tiring really quickly.

Thank you for your reply. I guess we each have our way of playing that is easiest for us. I find horizontal more tiring. I like everything about the GB528 tuner except for it leaving the top two holes exposed and whether I could fill them without dots showing. If I had the roasted maple neck it would be fairly easy to match the color but a light maple not so much.
I just watched Lobster's video on the GB528. I realize now he is discussing the 5 string model so tuner weight is more of an issue on neckdive than the 4 strings I mostly use. I only have one 5 string and only use it on occasion

Yeah, everyone has different preferences and different thresholds for comfort. I have a 5-string P5 and I have zero issues with the balance of it

I started making a record of tuner weights (total weight of all 4 tuners and individual tuner weight) ratio's etc.
I was shocked at the total weight of Graphtech Ratio tuners (14 oz)
I was considering the Gotoh GB640 as they aren't much heavier (close really) to GB528's but their physical footprint is way to big for my tastes so the Gotoh GB528 is the winner. slightly over half the weight of the GT Ratios. Good weight (lowest of the ones checked), one of the highest ratio's 26:1 and they look great. Only setback for me is the light color maple neck will be harder to get the fill color right compared to the roasted maple that I believe would be much easier. What I might do is get the wax fill kit remove one tuner and temporarily fill one hole to see how it would look and being wax fill fairly easy to clean the hole out if I decide I do not like it and if so buy them.

Hi guys, here you can find the complete sound test of the new SIRE V3P (passive version of the V3). The bass was recorded by plugging it directly into a Nux Mighty Plug and playing it with stock strings in the three main sound configurations (finger and pick style). I hope it will be useful to those who wanted to get an idea of the sound of this black beast!

UPDATE: I was only able to find just one seller who had Gotoh GB528 X Chrome and was on Ebay. All others were Nickel finish so I went ahead and ordered it. I will deal with the hole issue later. Thanks to Lobster and others who guided me and courteously answered my concern about weight issues, holes and other things. Much Much appreciated!

There are at least one or two other Sire players on here who use passive mode only, I don't remember who they are. If it makes you happy, it's not a waste, even if it is one of the best preamps on the market. If you don't want or need it, you don't need to use it. Me, I'm always active, but that's just me...
I have to ask, why did they buy the active model then instead of a V5 or P5 that is strictly passive

Oh, that was back before there even were the newer passive only models. I doubt anyone now would pay the extra for a V7 only to run it in passive when there was a pure passive cheaper. But back then, there was something of a "crew" who did just that.

Ok, I am new with Sire and trying to read up on this forum about Sire transitions etc. I have also noticed several G&L L-2000 L2500 players that seem to prefer passive mode also.

Control Cavity of my Sire P7 bass. I got the values directly from Sire who said parts can be ordered through your dealer if ever needed. You can likely find them using google search with exception of the 3 section 50kb mid frequency and gain that is a two knob concentric. They all have knurled shafts to fit stock knobs.

I'm assuming you put that 50uf cap in there...?
