I have a set of the chrome knobs I want to install but as I tugged gentle on the black knobs nothing moved. I realized the stacked knobs have a set screw but not the others.
For those that have changed knobs how did you remove them without pulling the shaft out? Am I just not pulling up strong enough?

I've used upholster/Auto trim tools like these to gently lift knobs loose. I have no Sire bass yet ;-( so I don't know if there is a trick to these, but I've done this to many other instruments over the years. Just be sure to tape the end of the tool if it is metal to protect the finish.

I used an allen key. I laid down a little cloth around the knobs and then gently levered up different areas of the knobs. They are on there pretty good but once you get them moving they should come off pretty quick.....(at least mine did)

I have a set of automotive trim tools like that. They will work perfect I bet. I will lay tape and thin cardboard on the metal before I do anything. Thanks SmokinJazz

Strings: has anyone used DR Pure Blues on a V7? I am thinking about useing them but would like some feedback first. I read the tb thread on them, but heard nothing about them on a V7.

I use them and they kill with that pre. You can go flat and dead to punchy and modern no problem. They really are the best of both worlds in that you get the tonal thickness of stainless and the playability of nickels.

Here's one more we resurrected at rehearsal tonight. We've got some rust to knock off!! I rolled to the back p/u and gave the bass knob just the slightest boost.

My 50th just happened a couple months back and I'm now waiting patiently for signs that my new fretless is being worked on. I don't know if they just email when it ships. Regardless, that was my excuse for the first one. Next excuse will be year end bonus, and then tax return -so might be able to pickup a couple more without too many questions from the Mrs.!

Your Sire account will show "in process" while it is being made. Once it it shipped to you then it changes to order completed I think.
You will get a couple emails from Sire and UPS with your tracking number.
The wait time is a killer, but once that email hits your like a kid and checking UPS every hour, lol. At least I did.
They make the fretless in batches, so once they have enough orders for their shop, they build your custom fretless.

You just have to hold on tight and pull straight out, they start really tight, but ease up once you get them moving a bit. Tricky at first. The concentric bottoms obviously need to be unscrewed first, pulling them right out without loosening the screw will break the shaft.

I think they make some extra in each batch to sell in the interims, but they sell out pretty quickly (as does everything else, they're moving a lot of product these days).

I haven't put them on a V7 yet, but I have them on my old MF 5er, and they do feel very nice to the fingers while still having more "content" to the sound than regular nickels. They're somehow smoother feeling than stainless, though the windings are the same size or even maybe larger, so they're just as "rough" shaped, physically, but there's something special to this alloy they use.

Yeah, you may have to pull a little harder. My knob removing tool is a pair of wire ties (the plastic ones that you pull to tighten and they lock). I make loops out of them, put the lower part of the each loop under opposite sides of the knob, and my fingers in the upper part of the loops and pull. If it doesn't come off with the first pull, I rotate the knob a little, and repeat until they come up.

Sent an email to Mickey today explaining that I'm an old man, 62, and would really appreciate it if when my bass finally arrives at the warehouse, could he could PLEASE find a light weight one for me. After reading about the 14 -15 lb one above, my back asked me if I was sure I knew what I was doing!!!

I haven't seen one yet, but there have been reports of new colors coming out with black pickguards - so maybe soon? I wonder if they'd let us buy just the pickguard. Hmmm.

Yes, that would be nice. Thinking of ordering a 4-string V7, and would like to get an additional, silver metallic crystal pick guard in addition (new pick guard color being made available very soon on V7's). I'd like to be able to swap on a new pick guard and if I don't like it, go back to the original.
