So to all you MM V7 owners out there, how are you all liking that bass so far. I found one on CL in another state. Should have it next week or so. All the reviews I've seen have been real positive.

You might want to check in on the Sire bass club thread. Lots of info and reviews there. But to answer your question, I'm going on a year with mine and it still slays. The sweepable mids are a great tool for maximum tone shaping, the setup is great as well as the fit and finish. With the gig bag that came with mine it was about the best $500 I've spent on a bass!

Ditto!

Having had a V7 5 and now owning jlepre's 10 lb 4 stringer, I'll chime in. It's really hard to beat these basses for the money. The fit and finish is great, the preamp beats anything in it's price class hands down. The sweepable mids are the best part of the pre IMHO.

On the not so positive side,.....they tend to be heavy, not all of them obviously, but I'd bet a dollar the heavier ones are more the rule. I also didn't care for the 5 string neck, the radius just didn't work for me. As far as the pre, I'm not crazy about the bass control. 20 hz , while cool, just isn't that usable to me. I'd also say, if you're looking for a straight classic jazz tone, the Sire's I've played seem to have a thicker mid tone to my ears. Thinking the p'ups are just designed that way. The last two jobs I've played with my 4 I've experimented with the bass in passive mode. I seem to prefer that mode over the active pre, and I'm typically an active bass kinda guy. Running in active mode, I usually wind up favoring the bridge p'up, low mids slightly boosted , bass flat, and boosting the highs to taste.

I'm not knocking the Sire's by any means, for the price, really hard to beat. I just think some of the posts tend to over inflate them. Lots have said they are equal to any $1500 bass out on the market. After having two V7's, I think thats a bit of a stretch. They're nice, but to me , they're not going to replace a nice Lakland or something similar though. Once again, not a knock on the brand at all. I like mine, it's a great inexpensive bass. All this is just MHO , and that's worth about a nickle in most places. ;)
