Sire V7 5 String Bass, Replacement Bridge & Tuners

Hello,

I have had my sire bass for a few months now an love it, however I am not happy with the quality of the tuners and the bridge.

While tuning today I noticed that one of the tuners is not catching properly and actually started to strip the threads.

Another issue with the bridge while adjusting intonation, the screw actually snapped on me.

I'm wondering if anybody out there has experience replacing the tuners and bridge and could point me in the right direction. I am looking for a solid retrofit for both if they exist.

Thanks,
Antonio

I have emailed hipshot through their website, in the meantime while I wait for a reply. Does anybody have jason's direct email?

Also still would be interested in hearing what others who have changed the bridge or tuners on their Sire V7 have to say. Any input is appreciated! Thanks

That's the thing is that everything was tight and secure, however the one tuning peg seemed to not sit right. It's almost as if the peg was on a bit of an angle(bent a bit?) even though it was fully tightened. Luckily I have another bass to use while this one is out of commission for a while.

You can easily replace ALL the screws on the bridge. The height will be M3 Allen socket and the intonation will be M4.

The tuners are the typical Chinese budget junk that the world is awash in. You'll never find quality drop in replacements so you just as well should get some Hipshot Ultralight's on there and leave it at that. You'll have exposed empty screw holes on the back which you can fill but if it was me, I'd just put the old screws back in because filled holes look .... Filled and ugly blemishes. Like a mistake. At least the screws tell the world that you changed the tuners and you're ok with it. Best for metal too. :roflmao:

The hardware is definitely not the strong point on this bass. It's playability and tone is where it shines. I guess the trade off is worth it though for the price point. I still haven't gotten a response from anybody... Someone out there has to have an answer.

Can you measure the mounting hole spacing on the tuner and bridge? It would be much easier to recommend something if I knew what would fit it.

Sorry these took so long. 18mm string spacing at bridge. I dont need through body(although the bass has it).

Is it still under warranty? Also, and I know it's a pain to do over and over, but always loosen the string before adjusting intonation. If that screw doesn't turn back and forth freely, loosen the string some more. Check the sire thread too, probably someone on there that has changed tuners before.

The tuners and bridge are extremely cheap and definitely the weak point of the bass. I *think* they will have the same hole pattern as an MIM Fender, which Hipshot has drop in replacements for (BT7... though don't quote me). No weight saved this way, of course, but the quality will be improved.

Sire *claims* to make their own hardware too, so you'll have to take one of the tuners off to be certain about the diameter of the ferrules or posts.

As for the bridge, you'll have to measure the body mounting screw holes and not the saddles, as you probably don't want to fill and redrill new holes. Ignore the screws at the front on the bent plate, they'll simply be covered by whatever bridge you replace it with.
