Sire V7 new neck pickup

I saw an existing thread on this topic but no one answered the op’s question.

At NAMM 2025 Sire introduced upgraded Z 7’s with chunkier MM style neck pickups instead of the Jazz style that many say are quiet and thin sounding. The pole pieces are chunky and match the bridge.

Has anyone played the new Z7 or heard it in a demo without all the NAMM background noise?

Cheers!

My guess is a single coil pickup is always going to be thin and quiter compared to the humbucker. Four big poles will probably help with the volume and punch to some extent but I suspect the change is purely for the look. I'm no expert though.

Btw if your buying a new sire bass budget for a fret levelling. Yours will almost certainly have a couple of high frets which cause buzzing and will stop you getting a low action. It seems a common problem.

Except the MM pickup on the 44-02 is not at the Stingray spot but the Z3 and Z7 is... The Lakland sounds great but it won't do Stingray sound well.

You're half right about the StingRay spot, it's mandatory to get the proper tone, but the Z3 and the Z7 don't have the same pickup placement, weirdly enough...

Those drawings are a good approximation but lack the accuracy. We need someone with a Z3-5 to measure a couple of things (I have a Z7-5 so I can do that).

But the reason I wanted to comment was... WOW :woot:
That's a really sweet line up of basses!

You know what? Coming to think of it, the best Stingray tones I've heard on YouTube were Z3 models. Not exactly a statistically significant result, but my curiosity is alive now :D
