Sire V7 preamp and controls - How do you use them?

Hello, first time post. Relatively new bassist but long time musician (sax & flute).

I've been really digging playing bass in general and my new V7 in particular, but I don't have a clue how to use all those controls (except for the volume!).

How do you use the preamp, and how do you set if for particular styles of music?

Thanks!

I'll bump this thread. Although I don't have a Sire (but surely wouldn't mind owning one ), I'm also mystified by the subtleties of such sophisticated controls and would like to see how people tweak them to produce different sounds.

From what I've seen, watched, read, and know from my Carvin Amp (which also has the two knob mids eq). Is to keep bass flat and get your magic from the mids. What type of music are you playing?

I love playing with them, but my usual "home" setting is active, all flat, except slight bump to lows and low mids. Balance slightly to neck, passive tone open. That's the spot I seem to like most.

I have a v7 and have found that the EQ controls only work in active mode (so you need to have the batteries installed and the active/passive switch on. I've been looking for a library of settings to use for my bass (that's how I found this thread).

What I'd suggest is to start with all of the controls flat. I started with the bass EQ and then midrange (and play with the frequency knob for the mid-range to get the tone that you're looking for) then treble. That's what I did anyhow and it allowed me to play with the different options as I built up the sound.

I know that this answer won't be any help to you, but I keep mine in passive, all the time. Any time I try to switch to active and mess with it, I inevitably switch back to passive and go "Ah, that's better." That's not a knock on their preamp, just my personal tastes.

I started with passive and got familiar with the tone control under the volume about mid point and got familiar with tones from pickup balance.
With the active eq, try leaving the treble and bass tone controls in their mid point, turn up the mid volume, while plucking an open A or D string sweep the frequency control to hear how it affects tone.
Have fun!
