I'm looking to round out my bass collection with a Stingray type bass. My other two have one or more MM pickups, but neither of them have these in the Stingray sweet spot. I'd been looking at Sterling by Musicman ray models, and then stumbled on this:

I'd be likely to go for the natural with roasted neck.

I've been eyeing these for a bit, there was some earlier post, some on here dislike the body shape, I honestly got to say I really dig this bass... I hope it is a giant and affordable improvement of a stingray and they go down and even make some short scales. If they offer quality stingray type tone at only roughly 600 dollars (That is the pricing I saw last or may be wrong.)

It really brought up nostalgia in me when I first started playing bass, I wanted a stingray at first to play like Flea lol... how time has change but I still love to try one of these beauties'!

There is another thread, much longer than this one. But because hardly anyone has got their hands on one, it's mainly full of opinions and conjecture.

Big takeaway for me is a Stingray that can turn off the preamp. Single coil neck pick-up doesn't hurt it's case, either. Love the SR sound but there are a lot of sounds it can't do. A bass that can be in the ballpark for Flea, James Jamerson or Sly and Robbie has a lot of appeal to a one-bass-per-gig player like me.

But first, let's see how well it can be all that.

I was at Sweetwater ( the actual store in Fort Wayne ) a few days ago and played a Sire Z7 next to a Sterling RAY24. I know my opinion will not be popular but I preferred the RAY24. I liked the neck and it sounded better to me. I also prefer the looks of the Sterlings.....just one man's opinion.
