SIT Silencers: what type of string?

The Silencers (nickel-plated steel) are closer to the GHS Pressurewound (Alloy 52) and the Rotosound Solo Bass (stainless steel) in the sense they're slightly flattened rounds.

The GHS PWs do come in "short scale" with 32.75" winding length (ball end to taper/silk).

I'm a huge fan and a regular user of the GHS PWs. Didn't care for the Silencers when I tried them.

I liked the feel of Silencers, but the B and E string were dead out of the package in my first set. SIT were awesome and sent me a second set, but the B, E, and the A were dead right out of the package on that set. Ended up switching back to rounds. Might have to try the GHS PWs.

That's a shame. I know that SIT went through a phase where their lower strings were DOA; it seems to have been a bad run of strings that has since been remedied.

Silencers are rounds that have been ground down

My issue with them is that the E string was completely dead. It took them over a month of emails to get them to respond to me, another 3 weeks to get a new E string, and the replacement, single string, they sent was a dud. I won't buy another set of their strings.

Yes, apparently you can, because there's alot of half rounds in the world.

But on these particular ones, the site says, "The exclusive process of Inverse String Winding compresses the outermost part of the nickel plated cover wrap..."

So, they say they have an "exclusive inverted wrap process" that does it.

There you go... Even SIT uses the term "compress", not "grind down".

I don't know of any "half-rounds/groundwound" that is "nickel-plated steel". D'Addario Half Rounds = Pure Nickel, GHS Brite Flats = Alloy 52 and Roto Solo Bass 55 = stainless steel. What else?

Don't you love it when a manufacturer uses a fancy marketing term like "Inverse String Winding" without explaining exactly what that process entails? ;)

That one makes sense. Pure nickel, alloy 52, etc.

Yup. My thought was, it's a steel wire. If you wind it upside down or backwards, wouldn't it just end up as the same thing? They probably run it through a roller
