Sitting at the bar alone

So here I am at the bar alone. I'm on a work trip by myself so figured I'd check out a local brewery or two while I'm here.

There are like three other couples at the bar though. They probably think I'm some weird loner ya know? What would you do?

Sit there like you don't have any friends, strike up conversation, keep staring at the sports on TV?

I used to business travel quite a bit. Involved lots of dining/drinking alone; business done; what you gonna do?
I found that the wait staff/bartenders can be really friendly, if they're experienced & good, they will strike up a decent conversation about where you're from etc.
Got lucky with a couple in my time too!
Other than that- Have a drink, go back to your room and watch HBO or something!

This is where a suit comes in handy. Then you don't look like a mass murderer casing his next mark.

This is funny, but it's also very true.

When I went to the store to buy booze, I used to wear stuff that makes me look like a drunken hobo. Now, I put my jacket on. People think "he's probably having a party or something". (I buy enough booze for a normal people's party on saturdays)

A jacket (or suit) is the difference between a mass murderer / hobo etc. and classy.

That was me about a week ago, sitting at a bar alone on a Saturday night while traveling. There were rockabilly bands playing so I just hung out and listened to the music. There was a crew of three or four couples hanging out and dancing; when one came over to the bar I commented that they were having a good time (hopefully not too pathetically), and she promptly invited me over to join them. Spent the rest of the night dancing and hanging out, it was great.

Let's see, what would I do, hmmmm...

Oh yeah, how about not give a f***.

Unless I was feeling sociable, at which time I would start throwing random articles of my own clothing at them then bounce out like daffy duck.

I was in a bar alone one afternoon watching a Flyer's game. The tv is at the long end of the bar. At the end of the second period a guy at the other end of the bar, sitting under the tv, walks over to me, taps me on the shoulder and says, what the F are you doing man, you've been staring at me all day. So he leans toward me like he wanted to start something and before I could say a word the bar tender had him by the back of the neck with one hand and pointing at the tv with the other said "He's minding his own f'n business like you should be, and now you're out on your *** !" ... got two free beers out of the deal.

That's awesome^^

Definitely my first time at a bar alone. I don't mind all that much, just thought I'd see if people had some interesting stories. Probably the same thing will end up happening tonight unless I find someone at this work thing that will come out.

The worst part? GoT finale is on and the hotel doesn't have it >:(

I just ended up finishing my beer, heading back to the hotel, and hittin the sack. Early morning..

Would not be surprised to find out the bartender recognized this guy because he intervened so quickly. Not his first time trying to make new aquaintences, perhaps?
