Old school deck, Indys and OJs or Bones. Best to get the best quality bearings available... Rails too, if you like them.

Skateboarding anyone???

I got everything else except for the trucks. I was thinking of drilling the holes on the deck and skate it.
I ordered some Indy stage 4 trucks for my old school Cab deck. I remembered I got some G Bones wheels and it got me wondering, you guys would skate those things back then? They’re huge wheels.
Dépends on what you skate.
64mm for bowl is freakin awesome.
I got 66mm 78a Powell on my cruiser with 1/2 inch risers
I skate street and I want to skate something that resembles that era. Except for the plastic stuff they would screw on.
I noticed some of the recent decks I bought have gone up in value but also prices are absurd. No more $60 decks.

Lately I’ve been seeing people doing primo tricks. Please don’t, I don’t care what people say but landing primo just looks horrible. I’m ok with people pushing mongo but primo tricks are ugly as hell.
I skated as a kid, in the 80'. I remember summers when I would spend days on my skate just cruising around suburb. My kids skate a little, so sometimes I surprise my wife and other adults in the park by grabbing one board and just zooming around! But no tricks and jumps for me, I can't afford to break a wrist or hurt back. It's still fun 
I've just "refurbished" a Rayne Brightside deck (34"x9.25", 22" wheelbase) I got used for cheap. Went thru' the rails with a belt sander (mostly razor tail, sides and front were OK), applied some polyurethane clear coat to protect them and put new griptape on. Real comfy "cuddly" platform there.
This is more conceived as a short'ish freeride/downhill deck for normal people, so for me at 50y/o, 100kg and 1.81m tall it's a really cool cruiser
So nimble compared to anything I'm used to (longboards), but at the same time wheelbase is not that short I get scared. It's even a little flexy (in a comfy way) under my clumsy fat humanity. It's got like 1" of slightly upturned "nose", I can even nose manual and nollie shuv this thing

Haven’t been onna a board since April ’77. Used to skate a LOT - especially long street and mountain runs. One little teeny parking lot spill and hung it up.
Was cleaning out mom’s attic last year and came across an old ‘60s bakelite board and brought it home rather than throw it out. Last year there was a little pro derby across the street in the public park skate bowl. Went over to watch. Told the sponsor shop guys I had an old ‘60s board = “Yah - bring it over!”. Showed it to them and the boss says wow! that’s a rare board! Offered to give me a modern board in trade.
So here it is! Set up by my good friend Jason. First day = sprained wrist, bruised hip, and a little strawberry.
Wot is WRONG with me?? Just turned 69. Started skating on steel wheels in '65.

Just moved my mom from The Dalles up to Seattle (Woodinville). Gonna miss the Gorge...

Sir, you're fit so, who cares what's "wrong". I hope I'm as fit 19 years from now. I'm not affraid of hits (I use a helmet tho' to at least avoid the most life threatening stuff) nor pavement dragging/bacon. I think they help keep your body used to healing. But sprains is a different thing, moreso if they involve my lower extremities. I'm still suffering from a month old sparined ankle. I literally slid over dog crap (hidden under fallen leaves) while walking a sidewalk. Didn't fall but the necessary ankle motion to prevent that was NASTY :-(

So mad at myself right now. I fell pretty hard 2 weeks ago and injured my knee. It’s going to be a while until I step on a board again.
I'm an old school 80's skater. A few years ago I went through my "midlife crisis" moment and just started getting completely obsessed about the old days and the skateboards I used to ride. I ended up initially buying a Powell Peralta sidewalk surfer just to fill that itch but that just made it worse and I literally started a small collection of sorts in the past few years. Memories came flooding back to me and I was on a mission to relive my skating years and my favorite boards. My two favorite skaters were the street skating icons Mark Gonzales and Tommy Guerrero so, I built an old school Vision "Gonz tribute" deck that I found in the same colorway as my original back in '85/'86. The Guerrero on the other hand is just too pricey to even consider (if you know you know). Anyhow, I now have a fairly nice collection of about 10 boards (cruisers, old school, longboard and a couple modern shape) and I think I've finally satisfied my itch. However, I'm still on the lookout for that old school Tommy Guerrero flaming sword deck in blue if the right price pops up lol.

I've grown up amongst lads like you, I mean, real skaters. I knew early on I wasn't a skateboarder, I could barely clumsily cruise (and still manage to smack myself on the floor often) whenever a board was around. But I've always found the stakeboarding environment rich and vibrant, and a source of good friends, even developed a love for the music early on too (Bad Religion in particular being a lifelong love of mine).
My midlife crisis was in fact STARTING to skate, at 36. I went straight to longboards, didn't fee safe on anything under 40" long. I have gone shorter with time tho'. I even attempted miniramp skating with my 34"x9" (my skateboard really, shortest thing I ride). Wasn't that bad at that, but it didn't feel safe anymore at 43, after ending up at the ER with my second shoulder luxation (first was my first day longboarding, trying to ride switch
).Now I'm 51. Still, way more fit than I've been in the last 15 years, so still at it, mostly freeridong down slopes, straight or sideways, doing some tricks, some dancing and overall having a blast. Lately with my 8y/o kid. He's more of a straight downhill tracer. I "soulride", trying to enjoy every meter of hills to carve and slide. He just EATS them straigh away, at speeds I just wouldn't dare ride, damm kids
I love having a nice quiver to choose from, depending on my mood. That's cool, and way more affordable than bass guitars. Also, there's TONS of super cheap used material to restore/refurbished (more on that on a separate post).

So, time for a little refurbishing story.
I ran into an add from a British guy selling a complete beat up longboard with trucks and wheels for 10€. A Lush Machine from 2011 maybe (38"x9.8", 8-ply maple), with Caliber trucks and pretty coned but "slide-correctable" Cult wheels (al serious brands) That same afternoon I had it with me and started.
I repaired a couple "non lethal" delaminations, went thru" the rails with a belt sander (I just happen to have one, but can be perfectly done with no power tools), applied polyurethane lacquer to said rails, regripped and reassembled with some Mindless trucks I had at home (lighter and a few mm narrower).
I left all the "protecting patina", both on the belly (finish is OK, it's just stickers) and also under the griptape. I tend to do that because the 2 times I tried GooGone for grip residue it screwed up adhesion of the new grip. Don't know what gets GooGone off, I tried alcohol base cleaner (like window cleaner) and it didn't do much. Somebody mentioned acetone to me, might try that with a section of a deck I still have with such GooGone residue.
So here's some before, during and after photos.

So, if we sum a couple € of gas to go pick her up, some 7€ of griptape and some cents for Titebond and poly lacquer I got to enjoy this nice board since yesterday for ~20€ (plus my invaluable love). That's 10% or less than what this Lush Machine cost new back in 2011, or what a comparable brand name complete will set you back nowadays.
All in all a versatile and comfy rig Surprisingly light also, I'm learning to ollie (never too late) and I was able to ollie this like 3"
