Slave amp, is it safe?

Hi everyone,
Can I slave my ashdown mag through the effects return by plugging an ampeg ba112 unbalanced line out? ,Is it safe for the ashdown to do this?,
As the signal of the ampeg's unbalanced line out is controlled by the volume, would it be safe to have the ampeg on full volume? or would it be better to balance the signal beforehand,(.. I don't know how to do that)?? DI box ??

I would seriously look in the manual if you have it to see how to slave. I think the manual for my GK 2001 explains how to slave multiple heads so I am assuming yours might. (either that or I read it on the GK forum) I would really have to go and re-fresh myself to be sure but I don't recall using the XLR out as the way to hook up. I am just guessing at that though. Sorry. I thought it was more using the FX section of each head.
