Slicers

Hey all,

For my bass I use a guitar effects pedal, a BOSS GT-3. It was a hand me down from my brother who no longer uses it. There is an effect called a slicer on it, that no-one I know has ever heard of. To me it sounds like a cross between distortion and tremelo but when I tried to recreate it on the individual pedals I found this impossible.

Now that i have a bit of money I would like to aquire some new pedals more appropriate for my bass. Does anyone know of a pedal(s) that could help me recreate a slicer?

i just was reading the boss GT-Pro manual, and i saw that has the slicer as well, and here is a description:
This consecutively interrupts the sound to create the
impression that a rhythm backing phrase is being played.

what that sounds like to me is a square wave tremolo

Yeah, I seem to recall a Boss sampler-looper I had (don't recall the model) having an effect called "slicer", and IIRC it was a square-wave trem with some tweaks to the frequencies, distortion, and panning.

So a stereo-pan tremolo with square wave option.... Maybe the Guyatone "Flip" tube trem? And maybe put a different EQ or fuzz/OD on each output channel, or leave one side clean.

According to the Boss website, the BF-3 Flanger (the new one, not the old one) can achieve "slicer-type effects" in one of its modes. I'm not sure if it's the GATE or PAN mode. Maybe it's GATE mode?

Thought it might be helpful. And since the BF-3 sits around in just about any GC, it shouldn't be difficult to try out.

yeah, listen to the sound clips on that page, and on demo #3 they have that gated flanger, which sounds like what the OP is looking for, sans the distortion

Yeah, the BF-3 should be able to do this "slicer" thing pretty well. I don't have mine with me right now, otherwise I'd record some clips. But yeah, check it out. Decent flanger as well

I used to have a BF-3. The "slicer" effect is just what you get when you use the pedal's "stereo flange" setting with a single amp.

How are you getting on with the PD-7? Does it sound better than the GT-3?
