Slung low or high?

Saw your comment and had to comment ;)

Everybody is different, every body is different. I wear mine pretty low, but with the neck pointed upward. I have really long monkey arms, and wearing the bass at the "proper" height really hurts my right arm. It winds up in a brutal-looking knot.

My avatar shows my normal playing position.

When I wanted to slap, I started watching TM Stevens... he wears his bass at a similar height, and I mimiced his hand mechanics.

I see your point. With longer arms your right hand will cramp. One of my basses I have to play a little lower so my right fingers don't tingle. Yours isn't that low. I'm talking about the players that have to fully extend they're right arm to reach their g string. Shoulder all out of whack to play.

This is something that I have spent quite a bit of time on lately, analyzing every point of my playing positions.

I suffered a major back injury a few years back, and lately playing has become so painful that I've spent a lot of time searching out solutions.

Strap height (to me) is a major concern. I've played low for many years, but lately I've been gradually raising my strap to find the most comfortable spot.

It turns out that my final setting is nearly identical to where the bass sits when I'm playing sitting down. I didn't plan it that way, even though I've seen all the videos, including Billy Sheehan's suggestions.

My advice is to ignore image and play when it's the most comfortable, because playing in pain SUCKS.
