Sly Stone dies aged 82

We've lost a lot of musical people in the last 6 months, but this really bothers me.

Sly changed the music I listen to, when I first heard, "If You Want Me To Stay."

This song got me into Funk and Rhythm & Blues.

Along with his slow, comical version of, "Que Sera, Sera."

And, let's not forget the line in, "Family Affair," "Newly wed a year ago, but you're still checking each other out." :roflmao:

Ah, Sly, we want you to stay, but as my mother used to say, no one stays here forever.

Rest well, Sly.

I honestly wish I could have met you.

Mike

I remember hearing "Thank You" and "Hot Fun In The Summertime" on KFRC as a kid. I later heard he was from Vallejo, a town less than 30 minutes from where I grew up. SATFS were kind of the gateway for me to other bands like Funkadelic, Parliament and The Ohio Players - even Curtis Mayfield. Sly was sonically innovative, blending genres that felt joyful, urgent, and accessible. Just the name "Sly and the Family Stone" tells you everything you need to know. Thanks for the great music! ~ R.I.P. Sly ~
