Small and simple device for home-practice

Use it as audio source to play along - so either phone or laptop.

Thing is, I do not want to install a whole setup when I want to play along for 15-20 minutes. I want to plug sometthing in my bass, put headphones on and maybe put a cable between laptop/phone and that magic device to have somethingto play along to. But that's it. I found solutions using little mixers, but mostly they need additional power supply, or do not provide headphone output, or this, or that... the iRig2 solution didn't work for me, neither.
hmm, I'm not vested in your approach at all, but based on what you said originally, I'm not sure why the iRig would not work.
it's quite small
has a 1/4" bass input
has headphone out
you can just plug in and play, or you can load music files (from iPhone, iPad, laptop etc) to play along with it
iRig software runs on most small devices ... iPhone, iPad, Android tablet, laptop either Mac or Windows (not sure about Linux)
sound quality is very decent
easy set-up. once you set up the software, it takes just a minute to plug everything in and go
pretty affordable as far as these things go

just curious about why it would not work for you ?

Because it needs a bloody app on a phone to function, which is stupid in itself. And the app is horrible in about every aspect, which is even more horrible
