Double Bass Small combo comparison question

Disclosure: I am an electric (4-string) player and tho i posted over there also, i figured I would get more useful information here than on the high-volume high-power electric side of the bass house...

Has anyone compared the GK MB150E/S to the Genz Shuttle 3.0-10T, in terms of tone and reasonable volume? I am aware of the speaker size and specs/features differences. I play quiet settings mostly behind acoustic players. These two are of particular interest because they have no fan/fan noise.

I've owned and use both. For what you're describing either will work well. It comes down to what works with your instrument and your sonic preferences. The Genz is a lot louder and more versatile. If you do a loud drummer gig the 3.0 head into a bigger cab will cut it where the MB150 might not.

I own and use a GK MB150S, primarily for double bass. It's a cool amp for what it is, however, for BG use, I'd recommend the GK MB112 combo. It has a lot more potential than the smaller, less powerful MB150. The MB112 has considerably more low end available, which I think is also desirable for BG use. The MB112 does have a small fan, but I've never heard it come on. Finally the MB112 is very reasonably priced. I paid about $300 new for mine. A good used MB150 will typically sell for substantially more.

The GB Shuttle is a nice amp, but to me, it is a bit limited with the 10T cab for BG use. If you want the convenience of a small combo that can get surprisingly loud, I'd go with the GK MB112.

And another option: I gig with a Carvin MB-12 for both EB & DB, and if I need the extra 1/2 octave downward extension, I stack it on a 1X15 cab. Very versatile combo that can hold its own, value-for-money, and has a lot of features including side out and XLR out. Neutral, good eq & comp, can hold its own with a drummer.
