Double Bass small electric which sounds like an upright?

These gig songs are not "jazz" but the first I used a Rob Allen Deep 4 fretless with black nylon tapewounds. The second video I used a Tacoma Thunderchief fretless with black nylon tapewounds. In both cases, I used a small amp. The Rob Allen was recorded direct. The Thunderchief (and band) was recorded with a single stereo mic three feet in front of us. FWIW.





No video, but this song I used a Taylor AB-1 acoustic bass guitar with black nylon tapewounds. The bass was recorded with a large diaphragm condenser mic.

So listening to these clips I appreciate that the “uke” sound / action may not be what you’re after. It’s great you have options closer to your needs. None seem to be in the “uke” price range :).

I also have an early Chennell Arco prototype, to which I have made some extensive modifications. The bridge has been replaced with a DB bridge, and it is strung with 1/4 size Spiros. The proprietary bridge on the arco is an odd duck, which features inserts of variable heights , which warped downwards under string pressure from the DB string. I also put a 1/8 sized DB tailpiece on it, with the proper string after length. I also have two sound posts installed, as it featured two bass bars, but there was some collapse in the top, likely due to using actual DB strings. Additionally, it bows well, unlike the BACE in which Arco would not be an option.It definitely sounds like an amplified DB of some sort.

I suppose that’s would be your best bet. Here is an email i used in 2010 to correspond with him, the instrument had some issues, being a prototype. He was very helpful. But he did not respond to a recent email regarding a repair issue. So I am unsure if the email account is still active. It is a fully carved instrument, and has to be subject to ideal humidity and temperature conditions. Otherwise, it will develop cracks and the like, like any other similar carved instrument.
